    Laphroaig Quarter Cask

Released in 2004, this bottling was aged for around five years before being finished in a quarter cask for several months, the size of the cask is quite small, thus does not require such a long maturation. This remains a truly great achievement from Laphroaig.

Tasting Note by us with John Campbell at Laphroaig Distillery

    Nose

Oily and buttery nose, with toffee, nuttiness, hickory, bicarbonate of soda, rum and raisin ice cream and zest.

    Palate

Big rush of sweetness, in fact it’s an explosion of sweetness, with fiery chilli heat, TCP, sweet cereals and a touch of cola syrup.

    Finish

Medium-length, but becomes fruity, with custard and cigar smoke.

    Oaky.

Smells heavenly, but the taste in the lengthy unbalanced woody finish ruins it for me.

    Complexity without the price tag

A delicious Islay drop. Behind the classic smoky and peaty nuances of Laphroaig, this offering features more complexity in the nose and palate than the obiquitous 10 Year old. A mouth watering sweetness develops with the addition of a drop of water highlighting the caramel and citurs notes. Truly a mainstay at my bar and for the price it is a keeper.

    A new favourite.

I am a long time fan of the 10 yr Laphroaig, particularly for the iodine and salty peat. There is less of that in the quarter cask. It is less aggressive and less complex but none the worse for it. It opens with much more sweetness than the 10yr. Rum hints and warmth with some fruit. Quite a burn from the alcohol, possibly due to its youth. Beautiful smoke on the finish with wood and sea salt. Quite different from the 10yr but also excellent. Will buy again soon.

    Amazing

Big fan of this one. I am a big bourbon fan, and i recently got into scotch, i don't like scotch with no smoke in it, the smokier the scotch the better it tastes to me and this is a prime example of a damn good smokey scotch

Great value if you enjoy an Islay single malt

Wonderful nose: petty, toffee / caramel. Taste: sweet, warm, buttery. Finish: long finish with light smokey flavour hints of fruit and caramel. Yes, it is available in Canada ?? picked up a bottle on sale for $60 CDN
