Back in the 1880s, Alfred Barnard, author of The Whisky Distilleries of the United Kingdom, enjoyed an eight-year-old Lagavulin he described as "exceptionally fine". As part of their 200th anniversary celebrations, the distillery therefore decided to recreate said eight-year-old! It's bottled at an exciting 48% ABV and was matured in refill European and American oak casks.

Salted popcorn, honey-roasted nuts, tarry ropes and light hints of freshly-chopped cedar. A touch of burnt sugar sweetness lingers.
Smokey peat appears first on the palate, followed by coriander seed, barley sugar, cumin powder, smoked kipper and marzipan.
Layers of apple crumble, toasted almond and ash. Another kick of cooking spices right at the end.

This whisky really does the lagavulin name proud. Not the most complex whisky ever, but so beautifully focused on doing its job well. I sure hope one day lagavulin might bring the 16yo into the same fold. This is just beautiful.
The tasting notes here has it spot-on. Mighty taste. Crisp, dry, a little sweet, and all that sweet smoke. Lovely.
I'm a member of a whisky club in Taiwan and one our members introduced us to this whisky in the past week and I am totally sold. Never bought Lagavulin before because I prefer non colored whiskies. But his whisky was a revelation for me. Will absolutely buy more.
Bought mine in Germany where coloring has to be declared, and this one is color free. Also non chill filtered. And with 96 proof this baby shines!! Bare bones Laga just the way it should be.
Was expecting a typical young whisky, but instead found a very delicate and sophisticated Islay malt. Love it.
