Lagavulin 16 Year Old Bottling Note

A much sought-after single malt Scotch whisky with the massive peat-smoke that's typical of southern Islay - but also offering richness and a dryness that turns it into a truly interesting tipple. The 16 year old has truly become a benchmark Islay dram from the Lagavulin distillery.

If you're looking for a food pairing for this beauty, try intensely flavoured salty blue cheeses, which complement the intense, peat rich, sweet and salty character of this Lagavulin wonderfully.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: More like Lapsang Souchong tea than Lapsang Souchong! One of the smokiest noses from Islay. It's big, very, very concentrated, and redolent of iodine, sweet spices, good, mature Sherry and creamy vanilla. Stunning.

Palate: Very thick and rich. A massive mouthful of malt and Sherry with good fruity sweetness, but also a wonderful sweetness. Big, powerful peat and oak.

Finish: Long, spicy finish, figs, dates, peat smoke, vanilla.

Lagavulin 16 Year Old Reviews

Shadow of its former self.

…… I can’t believe how average this tastes these days. Unbelievable fall from grace. Global demand I guess. Kilchoman Sanaig is a nice alternative or an Ardbeg Uigeadial.

Legend of Islay!! Just perfect!

Superb all round whiskey

Absolutely one of my favourites. Lovely colour to go along with the strong but subtle peat smokiness. On the palate is strong peat with lots of spices and sweetness coming through. Superbly balanced and not overwhelming. It has a lovely, almost tingly finish with subtle but lasting smokiness.

Safe to say I will never not have this on the shelf. Absolutely gorgeous drink

Balanced Perfection

This delicious drop is a perferct melding of peat, smoke, oak, and charred brisket with sweet bbq rub. It is hard to share this with my friends becuase it doesn't last long. The only negative is the price has gone up at my local liquor store. Supply and demand I guess.

Worst drink ever

Taste like mixed chemicals, I offered to my friends and nobody likes it, waste of money 💰 will never buy again, not everything that is expensive is worth the money, I don’t recommend this product

Loved this whiskey, didn't think the smoke over powered it at all.

All in all an absolutely gorgeous drink

Forget most off the shelf whisky

Had that for my fiftieth. Wow, what a drink,to be savoured. Unlike any other I've had so far. Not for the delicate palate

Like many others, I consider this to be one of if not the best example of the beautiful Islay, peaty whisky variety.

Tons of complexity and delightful flavour, rich and mature smoke, but also very drinkable and smooth on the finish. Essential dram.
