Lagavulin has become a Special Releases stalwart – and for good reason. The classic Islay distillery is beloved by peat fans (and everyone's favourite Parks director, Ron Swanson). This year's 12 year old candidate brings together the characteristic island smoke with the sweetness of American hogsheads, all wrapped up in a natural cask strength bottling. It's meaty and robust – Ron would certainly approve.

Meaty and mezcal-like with cola ham and a little putty.
Classic smoky embers and burnt ends. Full flavoured with balancing sweetness, great stuff.
Long, slightly drier but still balanced with plenty of ash and smoke.
The best Islay whisky I've ever tasted. Lots and lots of peat, peat smoke, but not Laphroaig "in your face". Floral, cola, sweet barley, spearmint, effervescent.... Just a ton of stuff going on here. No coloring added I think. No chill filtering. Expensive here in the US. $200.00. Going to get another to keep for the future. A single malt lover's dream.
Spectacular! Sensational in the most literal sense. Very well balanced and I like the dryness. Wonderful finish.
Laga fans rate the 12yo the highest among the common releases of 16, 12, 16 distillery edition. The 2017 is just spectacular. The punchy Laga but still a sublime sweetness/fruity sweetness. An awesome, spectacular whisky. Great whisky. This 2017 edition is perhaps the best in the past 5 years I would say.
