Lagavulin 12 YO (2013) Bottling Note

Yet another cracking 12 year old limited edition Lagavulin from Diageo's Special Releases, the twelfth of the series. Vatted from refill American Oak casks before being bottled at natural cask strength, this Kildalton coast classic is simply excellent.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Nutty with integrated citrus (lemon iced tea?), mossy peat and soot.

Palate: Big but well balanced with cocoa, seaweed and sweet, well-barbecued vegetable kebabs.

Finish: Oily smoke and cocoa.

Overall: Excellent, as expected. A flavoursome, chocolatey, smoky treat.

Lagavulin 12 Year Old (2013 Special Release) Reviews

Excitingly different

Love this scotch. Lagavulin 16 is my all time favorite ($ for ml). This is clearly not the same scotch, well crafted younger dram. Do not second think buying this, get it before it sells out.

Stick with Lagavulin 16

Lag 16 is my favorite malt, followed by Talisker 10, ardbeg oogie, and highland park 12. Always willing to try a new malt to expand my list of favorites, I sprang $90 for this cask strength lag 12. Could not be more disappointed. Has NONE of the elegance and complexity of it's older brother. Very medicinal, with 60 percent of the lag flavor profile, but 30 percent like laphroig 12s in your face phenol. Doesn't hold up to water at all, losing structure even with a few drops. The most disappointing malt in the last give years, a poor choice even at $40 a bottle. Had a hard time finishing it. Harder on the body than most quality spirits.

Stop reading, go get one

Honestly, why are you still reading reviews? Go get one. It's the king whiskey. Get one before we run out. I didn't get one fast enough last year. Not gonna happen this year.

Yes, amazing

I was fortunate to try a sample of this at a recent whisky tasting alongside the Lagavulin 16. I thought the 16 was good but a bit subdued, so I was not prepared for the huge peat and smoke of the 12. Awesome, a very close second to my current favorite Corryvreckan. My only complaint is that this should be a standard bottling so I don't have to go through months of "sold out" or "not available" between each release.

Perfect

Lagavulin 16 is my favourite. And this 2013 12 year old limited edition is amazing. Perfect smoke. I'll probably go and secure my second bottle of it.

amazing

Loved the Lagavulin 16, so when i saw that they got this at vinmonopolet (norweigian state liquor store) i just knew i had to try it. Having tasted many whisky's now, this have to be up there in the top 3 at least! It's sweet, powerful, smoky and very well balanced. I love it! Love from Norway
