Kyrö Malt Rye Whisky Bottling Note

A rye whisky from the fantastic folks of Kyrö Distillery Company in Finland! Made with 100% malted wholegrain rye at the distillery in Isokyrö, Finland, this stuff boasts all the wonderful aromatic spiciness from the rye whiskeys you'd find in America, well-balanced by rounded notes of brown sugar and toasted oak. Seriously impressive stuff.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Honeyed apricot and sultana, baked earth spiciness, a hint of chocolate and coffee hiding in there too.

Palate: Rye bread with Seville orange marmalade, blueberry, vanilla, black pepper and another touch of dark chocolate.

Finish: The spiciness of the rye sticks around, balanced by toffee and quince.

Kyrö Malt Rye Whisky Reviews

Really poor. Just came back from Finland with a half bottle of the oloroso finish (no pun intended) and it is almost undrinkable. A sense of wet flour, almost as if they have completely failed to distinguish between foreshots and the heart of the distillation - such a shame as their gin is really intersting, particularly the oak aged one, and that’s what encouraged me to try it

Smooth Rye

Beautiful Rye whisky, very different yet similar to Single Malt Scotch. Very refreshing, reminds me of snow & pine trees. Lots of floral notes.

Didn’t know what to expect from a Finnish whiskey

Well rounded an interesting change from the American rye’s not as direct on the palate, will try another whiskey sample from “kyro” to get a baseline .

Smooooooth

I bought this malt whisky because my partner is Finnish. I didn't expect a great deal to be honest. Boy was I wrong! A beautifully smooth dram 🙂🙂

Phenomenal rich Rye whiskey. Beautiful!!!

Phenomenal. My favourite new whiskey. Had this in a master of malt calendar this year and was won over immediately. I'm new to Rye whiskeys but the balance and flavour is incredible. The nearest i can think to describe the smell is of a dark malty banna bread fresh from the oven. A wonderful rye, brown sugar with an almost chilli tip but sweet biscuity after taste. It has a long finish that warms the mouth with a rich rye taste. Comes in a smaller bottle but worth every penny. Will definitely keep a regular in the cupboard and look foward to their developments over the coming years.

Foul

Had this in the whisky advent calendar (which I’ve had for the last three years). Of those 32 (if my maths is right) to date, this is the first that has been undrinkable. Absolutely vile. A weird eucalyptus taste.
