Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is quite spicy and sweet. There are notes of melted salty butter on granary toast, there are notes of toasty oak and a touch of rye with caramel sweetness. The palate is quite peppy and full. There are notes of candy floss and nut oil, a touch of spice and dark chocolate, a little spice and charred oak. The finish is long with a touch of dryness, there are notes of nut oils and vanilla spice.

Knob Creek Small Batch 9 Year Old Reviews

great sipper for this price range.

being a novice taster my first goal starting out was to be consistent so I only taste and compare when I know I am in the mood for a drink. My test of look, nose, mouth feel, taste, and finish are followed with a 30 second drop of ice to cool and melt just enough to bring out different characteristics in my samples. Thus far Knob Creek SB 9 yo has outscored 4 roses SB, Old Forester 100 proof, Larceny 92 proof, and one of my favs Russells SB 110 proof. my palate is by no means refined but I picked out the butter and clove along with the slightly dry finish. In short I was pleasantly surprised and would grab this bottle in a line up of 50 dollar or less bottles everytime.

Knob Creek is all I need for a bourbon.

It’s definitely my favorite, all the Jim Beam line I’ve taken a liking to the sour mash and yeast strain principle, which is a guarded family secret like Kentucky fried chicken 🐔. I consider it premium for my price range, though it’s classified as mid range, I’ve tried a lot of other bourbons and scotches and Irish whiskey, but I’m settled on the Beam, I like the fact that it has a dry finish…as also the other Beam line like Devils Cut, which taste like a ten year old…

What's not to like?

No complaints here, a chewy 50% vol bourbon, nutty, punchy, plenty of character and not too sweet. I prefer this to their rye or regular expressions. Reminds me of WT 101 but with softer edges. Good price point too.

Best in class

This is my favorite bourbon at this price point. It never disappoints. Full bodied but not off-putting, spicy yet buttery smooth. Nine years well spent.

If your looking for that bourbon you are proud to serve your friends but will give a glass to your dad, Knob Creek 9 year is your bottle!!!

I’ve drank Knob Creek 9 year 100 proof for years. I’ve found it to be the best all around bourbon on the market and I’ve tried many, many, brands. It is a pet peeve of mine to spend mid 30 to mid 40ish for a bottle of bourbon that tastes like lighter fluid at worst and mediocre at best ! Knob Creek 9 year has a pleasant flavor pallet and at 100 proof comes with a nice heady kick! The best part of Knob Creek ? The big blue box store in everyone’s town now carries it, price point, 28 bucks !!!

Definitely a go-to bourbon for neat drinkers.

I love it! I drink all my spirits neat and this one is bright, complex, with depth and lasting finish. I recently compared it twice with an earlier favorite, Four Roses Single Barrel, and both times I found Knob Creek 9 year small batch 100 proof bourbon to be clearly superior. I just another bottle and it doesn't disappoint.

Not great

Felt it was quite rough, lacking refinement and the smoothness I expect from an aged whiskey

It's worth a try ,very good neat with a few drops of water or ice cube

Bright flavorull spice, some vanilla. Bought at a Albertsons grocery store for $27. Not quite as good as my favorite Russell's reserve 10 yr but when it's $27 it's a treat. I go for the under $40 bourbons and there are many that are as good as the more expensive one. Old grand dad 114 and my Russell's reserve I mentioned just to name a few

Top-10 Bourbon for Me

Knob Creek 9 Year is a solid top-10 bourbon for me, sipping some now. I'm still relatively new to bourbon and I'm constantly trying to expand my tasting experience while keeping the price under $50 a bottle. Tasted the Knob Creek 100 proof, liked it though it was not a top-10 bourbon for me. Then I found the Knob Creek 9 Year on sale and, partly due to the 120 proof, it rocketed into my top-10. It packs a punch of flavor and alcohol. This bourbon sits in my (under $50) top-10 along with Four Roses Single Barrel, Old Grand Dad 114 (bit of a surprise) and Buffalo Trace.

Great pour with lots of flavors!

I usually buy bourbon at around the $30 point but I found it on sale at CVS pharmacy for $27.From the first sip to the finish I knew I found a bourbon I really enjoy. The flavors of oak vanilla and spice were there from first sip through the finish. For a 100 proof drink it was soft and for me that's a good thing.I will pay the going price on occasion but in the meantime at $27 I'm gonna stock up.We all look for different flavors and such in our bourbon and knob Creek has what I look for. So if you like that spice, vanilla and oak if you get it on sale or normal price this guy says you can't go wrong!
