A sweet, smoky treat from Ireland's Killowen distillery! Sourced from the Great Northern Distillery in County Louth, this peated Irish single malt initially aged in bourbon casks, before finishing in a selection of Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and Killowen’s own dark rum casks, bringing together sweet dried fruits, tropical notes of coconut, and vibrant peat smoke.

Wow. Not a huge fan of peated scotch but I love Irish Whiskey and was interested in an Irish expression of peated. There's not a lot of peat on the nose, you really get rum and raisin cake, really leaning to the dark dries fruits. On the pallet, very sweet, soft, the raisin is in there but the rum soon takes over. Deep molasses, very luxurious, cinnamon and a little vanilla. Then in the finish the smoke rises up, pure campfire/fireside smoke, nothing medical or iodine just a very pure wood smoke, like a hug.. This is wonderful, all the soft warm buttery hugs of Irish with that warm smoky finish. Like drinking your dram by a nice pub fireplace. My new fave Irish. Bottled at a good level too, lovely and intense straight but really comes alive with a drop of water.
