Kilchoman
Scotland
Single Malt
Kilchoman's Machir Bay is an excellent single malt Scotch whisky from the isle of Islay. The distillers use whisky which has been matured in ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso Sherry butts, resulting in a well-balanced flavour profile, with highlights of vanilla biscuits, light fruit and wafts of warm peat smoke. A top expression from Islay's farm distillery.
Citrus zests, crumbly vanilla biscuits and layers of elegant peat smoke.
A generous burst of tropical fruit and dried raisin opens the palate. Warming smoke continues to waft playfully.
Sherried fruits and sprinkle of cracked black pepper.
Some reviews on here fail to grasp that this is a typical Islay. Reasonably heavy on the peat. If you don’t like peated whisky don’t buy this. Have this neat and at 46% you’re not going to pick up any subtle flavours. A dash of water brings out the sweet honey and sherry notes which combine really well with the oak and smokiness. Is it comparative to a a lagavulin 16 at a a similar price? No. But it’s different in a good way. A man who only has one Islay really has none at all. Add it to the collection.
Relies too much on the peat. Not a smooth finish and underaged
An already classic expression from Kilchoman, drink this at your own peril! You’ll end up down the rabbit hole of wanting to buy everything that these incredible folk put out! Proper whisky.
Tasted like someones sweaty sock had been barbecued
Soft tar smoke, and not much else. Reminded me of Oban. Unassuming but a bit bland. Like Oban, it's also £10 more than I judge it's worth.
