Kilbeggan Single Grain Bottling Note

Single grain Irish whiskey from the Kilbeggan range, made using a mashbill of 94% corn and 6% malted barley. Rather light and easy-going, this expression is particularly enjoyable in mixed drinks or sipped as an aperitif.

Kilbeggan Single Grain Reviews

Not gonna blow your mind, but good dram

Solid dram, good Irish single grain that offers a nice contrast to pot still and sherried whiskies. Think slightly sweet, corn whiskey with light honey and vanilla but also like pancakes with honey instead of syrup. Easy drinking and friendly. Not gonna knock your socks off or be for special occasions, but a good dram and better than the standard kilbeggan traditional bottle.

Odd aftertaste

It has a weird chemical aftertaste that's hard to describe or to compare to anything, but is unpleasant. I didn't really notice, despite looking for them, any of the qualities mentioned in the summary above or in other reviews except for a little initial spice. Just for perspective, I usually drink Power's or Black Bush, like bourbon, and don't care for Scotch. Power's is rarely, if ever, available locally, the store was out of Black Bush, and I thought I'd try something new (for me).

Buttered popcorn with some cereal & spice

This is the first single grain I've tried as I was intrigued about the high content of corn mash. I wasn't sure about it after the neck pour (merely nice) but going back a week later it had really developed.

Some spice but really well balanced with the sweetness. Think slightly salted and cinnamon butter popcorn. Butter carries through to the mouthfeel and finish. If other single grains are better, I'd love to try them

Nice

I really like the smoothness and the flavours , maybe just a little bit too spicy in the end .
Personally i wouldn't mix it , i like it straight
