Description

Kavalan's Solist range boasts a selection of fantastic Taiwanese single malt whiskies bottled at cask strength. This particular release was drawn from a Port cask, resulting in a richly rosy hue and a huge blast of juicy red fruit notes.

Nose

Peppery at first. Thick layers of Port sweetness develop, with a light hint of vanilla-rich malt at the centre.

Palate

Citrus zests, brown sugar, sloe berries, a touch of sugary shortbread with raisins in the dough.

Finish

Citrus forward. Caramel and fizzy strawberry laces.

Port overpowers the light whisky

This is a light whisky, but it is overpowered by the Port, suggesting it is matured perhaps in the more porous European Oak, lower in Tyloses and Lignins. Certainly, IMO it has spent a little too long in the port cask. Peppery background with fruitiness. Port is too dominant though.
