Description

Jura 10 Year Old was launched as part of a refreshed core range of whiskies from island distillery Jura in 2018, replacing Jura Origin. Aged in American white oak bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period in oloroso sherry butts, it has the subtle smoke and sweet fruitiness you want from a Jura single malt, with an intense kick of sherried sweetness underneath.

Nose

Honeyed barley and peaches in syrup, with light wafts of fragrant wood smoke.

Palate

Oily and subtly spicy at first, before notes of earthy vanilla pod and chocolate-covered raisins develop.

Finish

Another touch of smoke rounds things off.

AS 10 Y.O. I LIKE IT VERY MUCH.

Very nice, well it suits my taste buds, so it's a 4 from me. Surprised at the smokiness.

Calm down with the e150!

Way to much e150 colouring in this whisky and lacks complexity, I bought this when it was discounted and wouldnt be happy to pay the full price.

A mistaken attempt to improve

Pulled up to 3 stars by the fact that, at face value, it's pretty damn nice. This would be worth a good four (or more) if tasted in isolation. But given the whisky this replaces...it's lucky to get any stars at all. The honey/raisin sweetness threaded with woodsmoke is still there, and it would take a lot of doing to ruin that, but...well, have you ever made a sauce with molasses or black treacle in it, then tasted it and thought "just a BIT more"? Then you stir more in but you wish you'd left it be? Although it's now fine, it's just darker and richer than you want - how it was would have been better. A step down from where it was. Good, but "best ever, absolute favourite"? Definitely not.

Used to love this one

What have they done - way too dark for an islay?? Theres a still a hint of the old jura taste but now hidden in a sea of dark oak and coffee

Definitely would buy again

Smells awful but terrific smooth taste top draw
