For me this honestly tastes like an old wooden floor. Rough, sour and bitter. This is one of the worst whiskies I have ever tried.
As far as I can gather Red Label was developed for the newly fashionable habit of drinking scotch with soda (way back when) which began when the traditional brandy and soda was difficult because Britain was at war with France. For me it probably the best scotch for soda of all the readily available everyday blends in the supermarket. There's enough depth to drink with still water too, and a tad of smoke.

I do believe that this one is designed to be drinked with a little ice it's wonderful once you added it.
Very smooth with the gentle hint of smoke enhancing the delicate flavour.
