The Paul John Classic Select Cask is an unpeated single malt whisky produced by John Distilleries in Goa. It has been matured in ex-bourbon barrels and bottled without chill-filtration at cask strength.
A big, meaty nose. Stewed apples and pears, freshly-baked sponge cake, golden barley and a pinch of salt.
Lots of honey on the palate, joined by deft spicy notes of cinnamon and cracked black pepper. Glimmers of fruit and dark chocolate.
Juicy fruits and a hint of oak.
Packed with character, this expression is very exciting indeed.
Super smooth with zero burn on tongue. Tastes very different from most whiskies and has flavors of citrus, mango, passion fruit, and a hint of spice.
Was pleasantly surprised to find how good this malt is. Being NAS, there is a touch of wariness associated but the first sip puts all fears to rest. I am totally blown away at how balanced and smooth the classic is.

I had never before tried an Indian whiskey. Then I got this as a pert of the World Whiskies Awards 2016 Single Malt Whisky Winners Tasting Set. What a pleasant surprise! This whiskey absolutely held it's own with every other dram in the set. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to expand their whisky horizons to include something other than Scotch. A first-rate single malt.
