John E. Fitzgerald Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Terrific Kentucky bourbon, named for one of the more colourful character in whiskey history. Y'see, John E. Fitzgerald was a bonded treasury agent, one of the only people to carry keys to the storage warehouses. He was also something of a whiskey enthusiast, and didn't mind using the aforementioned keys to get at some of whiskey with the barrels inside the aforementioned storage warehouses.

The bourbon itself makes use of wheat, rather than the more commonly used rye, as the second grain, making for a mellow, creamy expression.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Brioche dipped in fruity coffee, cedar, a kick of aromatic coriander.

    Palate

Buttered corn, molasses, malt loaf, slowly build Christmas spices.

    Finish

Peppery at first, though soon enough the fruity coffee notes return and give it a sweet profile.

    Make more goddamn barrels

About the same price of the 1L one? is this a joke? that's a straight 42% price markup! Yeah it tastes amazing and it's one of the few wheaters but asking 50€ for 700ml of Larceny is well, larceny. Over double the US price, well yeah if they only make 100 barrels of the stuff of course it's going to get a huge markup. This is not some micro distillery it's a Heaven Hill product for god's sake, and you're telling me you can't sell it at a decent price because it's too successful? Why not just make more and sell more? Yeah it's not that simple but overcoming that and delivering a good product at a reasonable price is your job. I like this one better out of the few wheaters that I tried but it's not worth that much. I won't buy any of it as long as it stays over 35€ (which is the price of the 1L adjusted to 700ml) and if it goes for 30€ or lower I'll comfortably make it my go-to and buy loads of it. But asking 50€ for this? go to hell.

    Fantastic bourbon

Wonderful! I think characterising this as smooth and creamy is doing it a huge injustice. Yes, those elements are there as a result of the wheat influence, but it’s the rich dark flavours that really bring this whisky to life; espresso beans, muscavado and liquorice take this whiskey to the next level. It’s a wonderful, rich, complex, flavourful bourbon and excellent for the price point; Buffalo Trace is the ultimate in great value bourbon, but I’d recommend spending the extra £15 for this (and definitely buy both of these over Eagle Rare, which is overrated in my opinion).

    Great for everyday enjoyment

One of my everyday go-to's. Nose is sweet wheat with a touch of oak. Rich and full mouth feel and an elegant flavor with all the right notes for a wheated bourbon. Not very complex, but very enjoyable. Great price point for the quality. Very happy that Kentucky distilleries like Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace put out some great product at reasonable prices. Buffalo Trace is hard to find locally, but Larceny is always available.

    My new everyday dram.

Being a fan of wheated whiskey's, I bought a bottle. I was shocked at the quality of the Bourbon that just cost me $24. Heaven Hill really got it right. Smooth and creamy, with just enough burn to remind you your having a whiskey. I won't bother with all the notes, but if you like the smoothness of wheat, this is a big winner.
