A no-age-statement single malt from Crabbie's! John Crabbie’s original premises were at Yardheads in Leith, hence the name of the whisky. As the brand new distillery gets up and running, Crabbie's has released this single malt from an undisclosed distillery for us to enjoy! A brilliant spirit to try out some whisky cocktails with - may we suggest a Highball?
Custard Cream biscuits, lemon peel, a touch of savoury wood.
Mint leaf, toffee apple, white grape, slightly toasty.
Rye heat and soft cinnamon.
There seems to be a problem here….some decent ratings, some very good…then some terrible ! I think that people are so caught up in the trend of disguising non aged whiskey with sherry, bourbon, rum etc etc and many have forgotten…or never knewhow whisky used to taste ! I tried yardheid tonight and found it to be sweet, honey, a little sharp but half as much water makes it right for me…..definitely buy another bottle .
nice single malts for highballs and mizuwari's.
Very nice fresh whisky.Tried it as it was on offer in Morrisons. I drank it neat and also with soda, the only mixer I like. I love peaty malts but this is entirely drinkable.
I received a bottle of Crabbie's Yardhead for Xmas from my brother-in-law and each year we swap whiskeys we believe the other has not tried. I have given this whiskey two shots so far and both were very bleh, at least for my pallet. Almost a sour taste without any real smoke, peat, etc. Nothing particularly interesting or special for me and it just tastes like cheap blends I've had in the past. I have a dozen bottles of various types on my shelf right now and this is easily the one I'm least likely to pickup. I may try it as a mix ... but I have some pretty solid mix whiskeys which are the same price or cheaper...
One of the best single malts out of Scotland I have tried. Here in Canada we have several distillers who have perfected the building of single malt whiskies that would challenge even the best from Scotland. I am still glad I purchased this because it has a distinct taste that I find very enjoyable. Congratulations Crabbie's.
