John Crabbie & Co. has once again bottled up a fantastic whisky, and this time it has got its hands on a single malt that was aged for a very long time indeed. Behold, the Crabbie 50 Year Old! Sourced from a coastal distillery on Islay, this 50 year old expression was drawn from a sherry single cask and bottled without chill-filtration or additional colour. It comes in a handsome decanter, which itself is housed in an equally handsome wooden gift box handcrafted from solid ash by Moran’s of Warrington. Just 220 of these decanter were produced, each with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity, so if rare and old whisky is your thing, you know what to do.
Ripe apricots, dates, candied orange peel with autumnal spices. Sweet toffee and strawberry linger on the nose.
Smooth, buttery mouthfeel with decadent syrup sponge, beautifully warming with notes of salted nut brittle, toffee, crème anglaise all wrapped together with gentle wisps of oak smoke.
Orange and lemon marmalade, candied ginger, subtle nuttiness with a long well developed finish that only time can create.
