    Jim Beam Rye

Great value rye whiskey from Jim Beam. It's a favourite of whisky bible author Jim Murray, and won best rye aged under 10 years in 2010, scoring 88 points. The label received a bit of a redesign in 2016, changing from a yellow label to this rather stylish green label.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

The spice is immediately apparent... nutmeg, cloves, freshly-ground black pepper. It's clearly going to pack a punch. There's also some maraschino notes too, with a thick caramel undertone.

    Palate

The spice delivery is not immediate; first there's a brief caramel vanilla note before it plunges you in. All the notes from the nose are here, delivered with a pleasant, fiery warmth.

    Finish

This rounds off to smooth cherry and pepper, with a slightly citric sweetness.

    Overall

Right. This is simply great for the sub-£30 price tag. I'm off to make an old fashioned...

Smooth and a great flavor. I don't detect the subtle flavors the connisoours mention. But I recommend this whiskey to anyone.

I'm a blended scotch drinker. This Jim Beam Rye is the best whiskey I've tasted in many years, outdoing my Johnnie Walker Black favorite. Good job, Jim Beam.

So sweet, it must be hiding something

I've never liked Jim, I still don't, I wanted to see if it was different in the 20s, it was worse, this looks like its all artificial colouring, smells like a superbike doing a burnout and tastes like something horrible disguised by too much sugar. This is the worst whiskey I have has in a long time.

    Bad

Jim beam rye was always my favorite. However after buying another bottle, I have noticed dramatic change in the taste, probably because of a new batch released. I was greatly disappointed. It tasted just like basic Jim Beam white, may be with a bit more rye spice and a bit less bourbon sweetness.

    Try it

Some of the knocking copy below is downright nasty. Perfectly palatable for the price. The Chaps are more balanced in their judgement.

    Decent value party whiskey

This stuff is very easy drinking, I have no previous experience of rye whiskeys to go on but for the price (£18 at Asda) I class it as something for newbs to switch it up a little. Went down very well with the new initiates at a party while I myself stuck to the Double Oaked, which I find opens up nicely with a little splash of water. More experienced drinkers please take this with a grain of salt.
