J.G. Thomson Rich Blended Malt
From J.G. Thomson's range of blended malts comes the Rich expression (the selection also features Smoky and Sweet expressions, so you know what you're in for with each one). To create it, the team used whiskies drawn from Oloroso sherry, Pedro Ximénez sherry, and American oak casks in a variety of sizes (hogsheads, butts, and quarter casks). With a definite leaning towards the dried fruit and festive spice notes, this one should make for a top winter dram.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Almonds, cherries, fig, ginger, and brandy snaps.
Palate
A tangy hint of orange peel as it opens, followed by treacle and blackberry.
Finish
More ginger, now with nutmeg and a hint of red chilli flake, rounded by dried fruit and honey.
