J.G. Thomson Rich Malt

From J.G. Thomson's range of blended malts comes the Rich expression (the selection also features Smoky and Sweet expressions, so you know what you're in for with each one). To create it, the team used whiskies drawn from Oloroso sherry, Pedro Ximénez sherry, and American oak casks in a variety of sizes (hogsheads, butts, and quarter casks). With a definite leaning towards the dried fruit and festive spice notes, this one should make for a top winter dram.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Almonds, cherries, fig, ginger, and brandy snaps.

Palate A tangy hint of orange peel as it opens, followed by treacle and blackberry.

Finish More ginger, now with nutmeg and a hint of red chilli flake, rounded by dried fruit and honey.

Reviews for J.G. Thomson Rich Blended Malt
Like blends from the 70's
I recently bought this blended malt and shared it with my whisky club. We were all amazing at how much it reminded us from those cherished blends from the 70's. For the price this product is incredible value for money!
Can't wait for another batch to land.

Punches a good £20-£30 above its price point.
This is a cracking whisky for the price. I have a few blended malts on the drinking shelf, and was lucky enough to try a chocolate-themed blended malt release from a well-known Glasgow blender recently, and I have to say I think this punches a good £20-£30 above its price point. It's certainly a rich whisky, and fits well into the space occupied by the more robust of sherried malts of the world like Glendronach and Glenallachie, but brings a level of complexity and smoothness that those single malts don't generally tend to display (ducks for cover...I know there are exceptions!). It's beautiful neat.
