Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky

Black & White Blended Whisky is a classic old blend of some of the finest whiskies in Scotland, with a high proportion of quality grain whisky. None other than Dean Martin was said to be particularly fond of Black & White.

Creator James Buchanan apparently got the idea for the brand on his way home from a dog-show, and in the 1890s, The Scottie and Westie on the label were added, and became iconic symbols.

    Tasty and great price.

An excellent choice for taste and price. If it's from Buchanan's it had to be good.

    Easy to drink.

B & W Whiskey was always given to my father as a Christmas bonus by the British head office of the company he worked for, as far back as 1975. It came with the 2 little dogs attached to the neck of the bottle. It was the first Whiskey I ever tasted. So I bought a bottle for nostalgia, to add to my collection of bottles of scotch. B & W Whiskey is unavailable to buy in Australia and bloody hard to find anywhere else. The taste is not overpowering and can be moderated with water. The old timers (who said they had stomach ulcers) diluted the scotch with milk.

A generic drinkable whiskey for a generic whiskey drinker

N: Thin citrus. P: Light mouthfeel gives way to rusty sour drops. A: Remarkable amounts of wood spice, a continued light, not unpleasant, run of the mill Scotch finish.

Black and white whisky is great malt

I love the black and white whisky but it is hard to find to buy. I hope they continue making it

A very drinkable whiskey, albeit slightly bland.

Initial thoughts: A blended whiskey from James Buchanan sounds pretty good to me. No cork...not a good sign but not exactly a deal breaker. Pours a standard pale yellow/light gold color. Smells a bit muted to me at first, but I can pick up some light fruit (pear?), some malt, mild vanilla and some peat. Taste is pretty much the same, with more of the vanilla/peat coming through. Pour some water and the nose/taste is a little less sharp, less peaty and more fruit/vanilla. Overall I am impressed at the blend considering how overpowering the peat flavor often is in these sort of whiskeys. It tastes like you get a little bit of the profiles that Scotland has to offer, without any one of them dominating...nicely done. That being said, I personally enjoy when at least one of those flavors gets to shine through a little more, and so I found the experience a bit lackluster, although in no way offensive.
