Isle of Jura 10 Year Old Bottling Note

Part of the new core range of whiskies launched by Isle of Jura in early 2018, this 10 year old expression takes the place of Jura Origin. It's initially aged in American white oak bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period in Oloroso sherry butts and bottled at 40% ABV. It has the subtle smoke characteristic of Jura's excellent Island single malts, with robust vanilla and an intense kick of sherried sweetness underneath.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Honeyed barley and peaches in syrup, with light wafts of fragrant wood smoke.

Palate: Oily and subtly spicy at first, before notes of earthy vanilla pod and chocolate-covered raisins develop.

Finish: Another touch of smoke rounds things off.

Isle of Jura 10 Year Old Reviews

A mistaken attempt to improve

Pulled up to 3 stars by the fact that, at face value, it's pretty damn nice. This would be worth a good four (or more) if tasted in isolation. But given the whisky this's lucky to get any stars at all.

The honey/raisin sweetness threaded with woodsmoke is still there, and it would take a lot of doing to ruin that, but...well, have you ever made a sauce with molasses or black treacle in it, then tasted it and thought "just a BIT more"? Then you stir more in but you wish you'd left it be? Although it's now fine, it's just darker and richer than you want - how it was would have been better.

A step down from where it was. Good, but "best ever, absolute favourite"? Definitely not.

Used to love this one

What have they done - way too dark for an islay??
Theres a still a hint of the old jura taste but now hidden in a sea of dark oak and coffee

Pleasant whisky for an autumn evening.

Got this at Tesco for £25 and happy for the price. Nothing overly spectacular but a nice entry level whisky. Not got the kick of other whiskies but their is a honey taste initially and then a string raisin/date taste to it with a hint of caramel. A pleasant drink but don’t expect it to blow your socks off.

Worth a Try Now and Again but not a Keeper!

Whilst not a deep and complex whiskey, there is a lot going on and most of what's going on is pretty tasty, albeit not particularly well balanced. Tinned lychees with a hint of honey and some floral, almost violet, notes on the nose. Pleasant oily mouthfeel reveals a taste of chocolate raisins (I know its plagiarism but it's true!) mixed with apricots before an aftertaste of chilli white chocolate leaves the tongue and lips a-tingling! It's a pleasant dram but, would I buy it in the face of better balanced competition? Well, I wouldn't rule it out but, more often than not, I would be looking elsewhere!

Oh Dear Jura, your ripping us off!

Not all bad but very thin mouth feel and just tastes like is lacking a punch on delivery. Was a big fan of their superstition so can not understand the change. They are clearly charging considerably more for a noticeably inferior product.

Great entry level whisky

Hurrah! Now this is much better than the old version. Smoke, fruit and a little caramel. Light, pleasant and very well balanced. I'm a fan again.
