Nose: Aromas of rancio, oily walnuts and rosemary honey seep through dusty oak and wood polish. There’s a suggestion of toast dripping with butter.
Palate: Plenty of rich and nutty oloroso goodness, dried apricots, meaty dates and a little blackcurrant. The fruity opening is complemented by the gentle sweetness of spicy muscovado sugar and thick, black treacle. Cashew nuts keep oaky tannins company in the backdrop.
Finish: The dusty oak persists with help from tobacco leaves and juicy prunes.
Overall: Devilishly dark and brooding, somehow both understated and a powerhouse. Wow.
