Description

A wonderful sherried single malt Irish whiskey, Hyde 6 Year Old No.7 President's Cask takes its name from Douglas Hyde, the first President of Ireland back in 1938. It's distilled from Irish malted barley and spent its entire maturation in Oloroso sherry hogsheads, before bottling at 46% ABV.

Nose

Fresh malt and orange chocolate, leading into baking spice and creamy vanilla, lemon curd and honeyed stone fruit.

Palate

Rich, oily malt, vanilla cream and dried apricot, with red fruits appearing, namely stewed plum and raspberry.

Finish

Honeyed spices and caramel, with tart red berries.

smells like tin spirit

Sooo disappointing. Probably the worst whisky we ever drank, low shelf quality. Smells like old socks, and this is a compliment! Harsh taste, full of alcohol, a bitter aftertaste... must have really been a poor president to dedicate such a poor whisky to him...
