Sourced from an undisclosed Islay distillery comes Scarabus, a single malt from Hunter Laing launched for Fèis Ìle 2019. Scarabus means ‘rocky place’ in Old Norse, named after a mystical area of Islay. The whole expression is quite mysterious, from the secretive distillery to the golden symbols adorning the bottle. A very handsome bottling housing delicious Islay whisky.
Classic notes of maritime peat smoke, sea spray and sea salt, with a subtle hint of vanilla and oak spice.
Oak char, old leather, stewed orchard fruit and vanilla sweetness returning among the smoky peat.
Lingering bonfire smoke, salted caramel and fresh berries.

Top quality Islay single malt, sweet and smoky. Great value
Nice packaging. 3 years old spirit. Pure P1sh. Not what I wanted and a disappointment from the new Islay boys and girls. Could do better
A great all around Islay, and this one would truly qualify as an excellent introduction to the notes for which Islay whisky is known. Smooth peat on the nose, with a bit of smoke, continuing on the palate with some caramel and gentle sea and leathery citrus; finishing with a medium length gently brined and honeyed smoke. This is a refined single malt for a bargain price.
Delicious, well balanced and easy to drink. It was a gift I received and I am just about to buy it as it is really pleasant to drink.
For sure a 4 out of five. Peaty start smooth caramel finish. Competes with anything under 100 Canadian dollars easily and many overpriced small batch snobbery.
