Sourced from an undisclosed Islay distillery comes Scarabus, a single malt from Hunter Laing launched for Fèis Ìle 2019. Scarabus means ‘rocky place’ in Old Norse, named after a mystical area of Islay. The whole expression is quite mysterious, from the secretive distillery to the golden symbols adorning the bottle. A very handsome bottling housing delicious Islay whisky.
Classic notes of maritime peat smoke, sea spray and sea salt, with a subtle hint of vanilla and oak spice.
Oak char, old leather, stewed orchard fruit and vanilla sweetness returning among the smoky peat.
Lingering bonfire smoke, salted caramel and fresh berries.
People who are rating this whisky with less than 3 out of 5 are crazy. If you don`t like peated whiskies then why do you buy one? This is everything the peat fans need. For me it is in the same league with Ardbeg 10, Caol Ila 12 or Laphroaig 10. I had two bottles, and i will buy again. Nice affordable stuff
As a fan of smoke and peat I was pleasantly surprised… this whiskey really delivered…and for about $35 here in the US …that’s a great buy… thanks… and keep up the great work!
Holds its own with any of the standard bottlings from Islay. The smoke and the sweetness are married better then they are on Ardbeg 10. It’s sweeter than Laphroig 10. At $15-20 cheaper than either of those two it’s a must buy.
On par with Ardbeg An Oa, which is better than Ardbeg 10 IMO. $35, often on sale for $29.99 Can’t imagine any Islay fan not liking this.
I'm a bit baffled by the occasional bad review, I won't go flowery on the description, but I love it. I bought a bottle last year at Ardnahoe and I was back there last week and bought another one. As a wee footnote, if you haven't been to the distillery then do so if you can; not only have they secured a stunning location but the staff are fantastic and the food as well as the whisky is excellent. Top marks.
