Scarabus Batch Strength

This right here is a higher-strength edition of Hunter Laing's Scarabus single malt, which is an Islay single malt from an undisclosed distillery. To make it, casks are specially selected to be bottled at the bumped-up strength. While the standard expression is bottled at 46% ABV, this one weighs in at a burly 57% ABV, which has helped to bolster the robust, smoky notes at its core.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Cut oak, pear, green apple, smoke slowly building the longer it stays in the glass.

Palate Pink peppercorn and red chilli flake, balanced by soft vanilla and a drizzle of honey.

Finish Toffee, honeycomb and a touch of ash.

Reviews for Scarabus Batch Strength
Nice Islay
Missed the standard bottle but managed to get this. Adding to notes: on the nose I'm picking toffees, licorice also apple. On the palate I don't pick much but peppers some oak and smoke. Intense mouth feel. The finish in quite long with more toffee, chili and ash. All and all not a bad whisky. My fist from Hunter Laing. Bonus from the bottle design. Looks fantastic.

Very pale in colour; complex flavours making it difficult to discern a single note. Short firey burst with a long and pleasing aftertaste lingering on the palate. More interesting and smoother than the Scarabus Original.
