Highland Park Freya - 15 Year Old (The Valhalla Collection)

Highland Park Freya Bottling Note

The third release in Highland Park's The Valhalla Collection is the Freya, a 15 year old single malt Scotch whisky named after the Norse Goddess of Love. Wise, sensitive and with a magical cloak of feathers that creates the Northern Lights above Orkney, Freya was a valiant protector of human souls.

To match her personality, Highland Park have created a suitably sensual and delicious whisky with a hint of Orkney smoke to bear the Freya name.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Chamomile, orange, papaya, leather strips, grapefruit, peach, pine, pear skin, cardamom, fruity smoke and a touch of heather. White chocolate and freeze-dried strawberries.

Palate: Woody and fragrant pear. Starfuit too. Smoke, orange peel and proper Turkish delight.

Finish: Smoky with a hint of tin, drying at full strength. Apricot and spices.

Overall: Freya, 'The Fair One', Goddess of Love - seductive, subtle, each sip leaves you wanting just a little more.

Try dark origins instead
It is a fine Scotch. However, placing a fair-good Scotch in a bottle with a fancy wooden holder does not justify the cost. Do yourself a favor and buy 4 bottles of HP Dark Origins instead and be treated to a much better tasting Scotch.

Furious malt
Great cask strength whisky. Too bad the price is so high. Smooth whisky with lots of character.

Nice malt for not so nice price
This one was a bit of a surprise. Very 'clean', fresh profile, refreshingly fruity and almost smokeless before adding some water which brings the peat out more. I rather liked it but would only buy a bottle at ½ the price since qualitywise this is a match for HP18 rather than the kind of bottles you can find at €150 and beyond.
