An altogether smokier-than-normal addition to the Highland Park range, Dragon Legend shows off their peaty elements cleanly and clearly, alongside sweeter hints from the sherry-cask-matured portion of the expression.
Cut grass, roasted vanilla pod and a hint of mulled wine.
A robust core of heather-y, earthy smoke arrive straight away, with peppercorn, mince pie and oily malt in tow.
Notes of dried citrus and toasted barley linger, but the finish doesn't drag on too long (get it?).
I really don’t know what to say about this. Yes it’s fairly smooth and has quite a nice nose, but this batch seems to have suffered from sub standard casks. Very sappy, extremely green wood notes and dare I say it slightly reminiscent of a certain budget supermarkets Islay. I suppose I’m just getting a bit jaded being an old git, having been lucky enough to remember the halcyon days of the late eighties to mid ninties. This was on offer so I take comfort in the fact I didn’t pay much for, It but a bottle of Springbank 10 for a few quid more would have been a far better purchase.
I really enjoyed this. It's not as peated as I expected but the peat is certainly there. It's probably just me but I got lovely chilli dark chocolate and open fire notes with a touch of fruit spiceness. Lovely.
This is a beautiful whisky worthy of the price , it will be hard to ween my husband off this one as being his favourite tippl
