    Highland Park 12 Year Old

A great introduction to Highland Park's famed heathery peat smoke, the 12 Year Old is matured predominantly in sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, so it's spicy, citrusy, and full of smoky aromatics. This is part of the Orcadian distillery's impressive core range, which was treated to a smart new look in 2024.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Fresh, clean and very aromatic. Floral notes abound the senses with a light grassiness. Notes of creamy Manuka honey and a touch of juicy citrus with cream and a well-balanced sweetness.

    Palate

Rather full with a pleasant depth. Lurking somewhere in the substratum a grilled orange lies. Notes of granary toast and green tea with jasmine. A touch of sweetness.

    Finish

Quite long with peppery spice and wood shavings.

    Wonderful daily

I've been a fan of this longer than I have been a proper scotch drinker, and it still stands up. I may have other bottles in my collection for special occasions but this is like an old friend I'm always happy to revisit, and who doesn't ask too much of me when I do. Worth every penny!

    Watered down good whisky

Makes for a good mixer but isn’t at all complex or smooth compared to many other single malts of a similar age. A cask strength offering could be interesting but this feels like a liqueur, too watery at 40% for the flavours to be meaningful enough.

    Excellent All-Rounder

    Simply an amazing everyday sipper.

A very nice smooth, slightly smoky one.

Introduced to this by a friend who claims it is his favourite. Its very nice, smooth, easy drinking and I enjoy it with a wee bit of ice, the chill the ice gives and the water as it melts opens this whisky with every sip. A great nose of honey, floral and oak. Slightly smoked the palate is spicy, a little bit fruity and the aftertaste is decent length, peaty and sweet. A great whisky at a very affordable price.

    Perfect for Whisky Soda

I agree with those who suggest this is best with water, and for the money, thats really what you're buying. For me it's not going to be one that you'd serve as a dram, but marry it with some ice and a good soda and you've got yourself something beautiful; its almost like this whiskey needs the dilution to get the best from it. I like whisky soda as an aperitif or just something to sip and watch the box with and for that, it serves with distinction. Subtly malted, a touch sweet and very very moreish.
