Kura Rum Cask Finish

A variation of Kura The Whisky blended malt whisky, which has enjoyed a finishing period in casks that previously held rum. We're rather fold of rum cask finished whiskies, as they help to bolster any lip-smacking fruit notes - and that's exactly what has happened here.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Toasted oak to the fore, before a kick of green apple and spiced mango chutney.

Palate Tangy orange and lemon, followed by a touch of menthol. Still quite smoky.

Finish Burnt sugar, stewed pears and heavy hints of clove.

Reviews for Kura The Whisky - Rum Cask Finish
Excellent
Just bought this bottle from Japan. And I don’t understand the reviews below. Excellent whisky with beautiful notes

It’s worth the money
Disagree with all the reviews below. This was part of the December drams and I left it to last because of the reviews and because it was a blend. I enjoyed this immensely it was smooth and very pleasant to sip. Liked it so much I think I will order a bottle!

Really!?!?!? 89£!??!?!?
This is a serviceable whisky, certainly better than a basic grocery store bottle - i.e. it doesn't hurt me to drink it - but there's not a lot to recommend it. A whiff of smoke, a bit of menthol and fruit, a touch of rum cask vanilla sweetness, but nothing that catches my palate or imagination. If it were around the 35£ mark I'd probably give it a 2.5-3 as it is smooth with some nice moments - but at 90quid I can get 2 bottles of 4-5 star whiskies that I love (if I choose wisely, of course)...... Glad to knock it off any "must have" list.

Agree with the other comments.
Just abit bland. Weak finish. Lacking the port flavours, must of been in the port barrels very short amount of time.

Won't be trying again and for £90 a bottle. Your having a laugh!

Not even a rum cask can save this one.
Tried it as a part of a tasting pack, and there's not a lot to redeem here. It has a harsh and bitter flavour, with the sweetness of the rum barely cutting through. Reminded me of a cheap Speyside. Plus at 40%, it lacks a satisfying burn at the end.

Poured it down the drain
The worst liquor I have ever tried in my life. I can't describe it, so bad I thought it was fake liquor.

Sadly not worth the money.
What to say... This is a whisky for people who doesnt like whisky. Its fresh and you can taste the citrus and a small hint of smokeyness. But to be honest it lacks of depth. Its almost like drinking a fresh vodka with a hint of smoke, nothing more going on.
If it was a cheap whisky i could understand. But the price is as high as a Good Lagavulin 16 or Bowmore 18 and for that amount of money you expect much more.

Too expensive, bland taste.
This was not a good whisky. Tastes like a really young scotch with a small influence of the rum cask coming trough in the end. No at all worth the price.
