A fantastic rye whiskey produced in Kentucky, the Pikesville brand dates back to 1895 in Maryland. This 6 year old 110 proof was released in 2015, receiving a Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, an "Extraordinary, Ultimate Recommendation" from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge and was named the Second Finest Whisky in the World in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2016 as well as the World's Best Rye Whisky at the World Whiskies Awards 2016 - Heaven Hill also won Distiller of the Year at the Icons of Whisky 2016!
"one of the aromas of the year... after that nose, the delivery just had to be majestic. And it is... those wonderful, bustling, fizzing spices... the best from Heaven Hill for some time"- Jim Murray (97.5 Points)
Nose: Some dusty spice, a touch of Norwegian hand cream and cocoa at first with sweet liquorice, Curaçao, vanilla custard and crème caramel developing.
Palate: Fruity, then wonderfully spicy rye. Sweet liquorice again (specifically the coconutty/nougat-y pink Liquorice Allsorts that have a black bit in the middle), plenty of oak and then clove drops on the tail.
Finish: Vanilla with cinnamon and apricot Danish.

After my 1st dram, I had to look twice at the ABV%. I know the estimated mash bill lists its rye content at no more than 60%, lower than most straight Rye Whiskeys. Nonetheless, at 110pf, and after its most pleasant aroma, you still find yourself preparing for a fair amount of forward/mid biting spice with a long burn finish. However, Pikesville 6yr, considered a Maryland style Rye (lower rye bill than Pennsylvania style), offers an equally subtle forward spice and mildly dry, comforting warm finish. Heaven Hill, has produced the most delicious, smoothest, complex flavored yet unassuming, and perfectly balanced Rye I have the pleasure to drink.

Fantastic stuff this is !. I was just a single malt whisky man and old dark rum man and I sent for some samples of another American whiskey and got this stuff as an accident. Luckily enough Master Of Malt let me keep them as a good will gesture and I was totally gob smacked at the depth of flavour of this whiskey. It was probably a slick move on Master Of Malts (JOKING) behalf because I fell in love with this stuff instantly and ended up buying a couple of bottles. A funny turn of events that ACCIDENTALLY got me into this stuff !!! Mad World !!! 5 Stars Easily.

I recommend you try Bulleit Rye and Knob Creek Rye next. Master Of Malt sells them, and they are cheaper than Pikesville, but still very good and different from each other and Pikesville. Knob Creek Rye is so spicy it can blow your head off if you aren't prepared for it.

I'm not a big bourbon fan and yes I know this isn't bourbon but it's one 3 ingredients that is in bourbon but WOW Rye whisky or whiskey more apt 😉 ,On its own is not bad at all in fact it's very nice and I'm blowed away with its complexity and aroma. Since I'm a newbie to Rye whiskey can anyone recommend some good drams of Rye whiskey because I've no idea which are the better ones to try ? I'm going to have to do some experimenting with this but in the mean time pulse recommend some good Rye drams. 🤤 - as homer would do
I'm over whiskey with bite. That said, at least it's tasty.

Very good - needs to be let out with a decent slug of water... with Brexit idiots trashing the £ it looks pricey, but worth it if you can afford the cash

Jim Murray gets a lot of stick but I can see why his score was so high with this!! Unbelievable whiskey!
I found this at a Mom& Pop liquor store in Lynnwood, Washington for $52 out the door ( in Washington with what amounts to 30% in taxes on alcohol) this was a hell of a bargain. I bought all they had!

The only ryes that can touch it are, the TOTAL Whistle Pig & a couple of High West ryes
This isn't bad at all!!In fact I'm knocked out by how good this is!!

"Norwegian hand cream"? Really? I'll have to take your word for that. All I know is this is a really really good rye whiskey. It's got a very 'now' flavour profile...salted caramel, burnt butter, very aromatic. Has the longest chewy finish I've ever come across. Remember those Texan chew bars you used to get? It reminds me of those. Overall I reckon it's solidly great without being must-have mind blowing. But it's worth the money and well-deservedly up there so grab it if you see it available; it's definitely one to try, you won't be disappointed.

My favourite whisky bar none. Big, bold, buttery, spicy. Yummy.

The first person to review this has given nosing and tasting notes that I largely agree with (though I disagree that there is any amount of bitterness on the finish) so I won't repeat them. If you find this whiskey available, buy it without hesitation, is my advice.

Absolutely delicious. Drinking chocolate with a little spiced apple on the nose, vanilla, plenty more, just can't work it out yet! A real silky mouth coating texture, initially very cool on the tongue, then spices kick in, balanced with no overbearing heat, just right. A long finish which is slightly bitter but still retains that hint of sweetness, agree with the cherry comments I've read. Even nicer on the 2nd, 3rd....mouthful. Will keep a beady eye for a re-stock on this one.
