A 12-year-old malt whisky from Hatozaki, this interesting Japanese bottling was initially matured in American oak casks, before being finished for six months in barrels that previously held Umeshu liqueur, arguably the most iconic fruit liqueur made in the country using a native variety of small plums called ume.
Nose: Floral honey, creamy vanilla, and lots of fresh orchard fruit.
Palate: Through cherry blossom and lavendar comes lychee, dried apricot, sweet peaches in cream, and toffee.
Finish: Violets and vanilla linger.
