    Grant's Triple Wood

As you might expect from the name, Grant's Triple Wood features whisky drawn from three types of cask - specifically refill American oak casks, first-fill ex-bourbon casks and virgin American oak casks. An approachable blended Scotch whisky from the world-famous brand, taking the place of the Family Reserve as its flagship expression.

    Tasty stuff.

The art of blending is often overlooked by whisky "connoisseurs", who tend to be obsessed with single malt, but The Master Blender is one of The Great Craftsmen of this world. Every distillery has its "House Style" and I believe that whether and how much one's taste buds or idea of whisky correspond to that of The Blender is even more important to one's opinion of a dram, than the pounds, shillings and pence behind it. I find that, while I enjoy a bold single malt more than an affordable blend, I 'respect' the craft of a creating a good blend more than those who stick some whisky in a barrel for 100 years and charge £1,000 a bottle for it. I like the taste of Grant's in general and I like this Triple Wood. Astringent barley sugar with an unmistakable grainy finish. Like 50s Blues, it's a little rough around the edges, but in a pleasing way. It is certainly better than the other affordable blends which try to cover up their blue-collar ingredients. Johnnie Walker really missed a trick with their foul Red Label. Let's hope they learn something from this. And I sincerely hope that Grant's release a more premium blend in the future.

    Enjoyable blend

Nothing wrong with this very affordable, every-day whisky. You can't compare it with a single malt obviously, but it's a fair priced, very drinkable blend.

    Try it, you'll love it

This very good, worth every penny. If you haven't tasted whisky before, this is the one you should start with.
