This addition to the Godawan series of Indian single malts from Rajasthan's Alwar distillery was treated to a rather unusual maturation in cherry wood casks! Rajasthan is one of the hottest, driest regions on Earth, providing a challenging, but rewarding environment for whisky maturation. The distillery uses sustainable locally sourced barley, and employs water conservation techniques in its production, meanwhile maturing its whisky in an array of intriguing casks, and sometimes even treating it to botanical infusions. After an initial maturation in bourbon casks, this single malt finished in casks made of cherry wood for a rich harmony of fruit and spice.
So much going on with this, sometimes reminiscent of a very traditional single malt scotch, but the cherry cask finish adds another layer of nutty richness.
