A rather exciting arrival here, it's the second-ever single malt whisky from the community-owned GlenWyvis distillery, located in the valley of Ben Wyvis mountain in the Scottish Highlands! Sustainably distilled in 2018 from locally grown Concerto barley, this single malt was then filled into a selection of ex-Tennessee whiskey barrels, oloroso sherry hogsheads, and refill Scotch whisky casks to mature. A patient wait followed, whilst the new make rested and evolved into this extremely impressive young Scotch, bottled up in 2022.
Dense summer fruits open the way, with delicately floral honey and ripe plum.
Buttery malt, with crumbly fudge and vanilla pod, followed by green apple peel, and pangs of peppercorn.
Heavy oak char, rich, silky caramel, a sprinkle of bitter cacao, and young orchard fruit.
I tried the three y/o and the four which I managed to find at Berry Bros and Rudd London. Both were more summer than winter drams, light, vanilla, delightful. Upon approach, a distinctive chocolate score balanced by a fruitiness, maybe apple.
Was unsure of how this dram would taste for a 3 year old, but I was very surprised. Quite a bit more complex than the other new releases of a similar age. Price is a little steep, but given it’s a limited release of only 8,000 it is understandable
For a young whisky, this is a great surprise. It is full of fruity flavours and a nice rich mouthfeel. Looking forward to see how their other whiskies mature.
Amazed this dram is 3 years old. I’ve tried most of the new distilleries and most were “okay”. But this has a completely different edge to it. A must try for all whisky geeks
Really surprised by this dram given the age. Good complex flavours and rather delightful finish. Excited to try more releases from this distillery
