Gordon & MacPhail
Scotland
Single Malt
A particularly handsome bottling of 1997 vintage Glentauchers single malt Scotch whisky, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in 2016 for their Distillery Labels series. As such, it's got a neat retro-styled label, which for some reason reminds us of the box art for some Sega Mega Drive games...
Refreshingly fruity with strawberry and peach, with layers of caramel and rye spice developing in the background.
Fried dough dusted with icing sugar, fresh orange and some clove.
Liquorice root, mint leaf.
OK This review is for the 1991/2010 bottling at 19y/o by G&McP... which will be similar because these big blend distillers go to great efforts to maintain consistency. Not a typical Speyside, more like a lowlander: similar to an Auchentoshan (before they went all NAS) or even a Glen Grant on a particularly good day. Light and grassy, lemon boiled sweets, apple pie, with a long smooth finish. Quite distinctive and such a change from the usual malts. Somehow seems appropriate for an English summer's evening & I can really recommend a bottle.
