    Nice 'everyday' whisky

My first experience with Glenrothe. It was a gift from my mother who knows my taste for sherried juice and speysiders. In the nosey: Oloroso is the key here. A well known presence of fruity sweetness with a whiff of spices. Slight alcohol. In the mouth: I can best describe it as "sweet dryness". It goes everywhere and as the alcohol wears off, the sugary frutiness becomes almost vinous. The peppery'ish spiciness lingers in the background. The finale: The "boooo" thing here is, that's quite short but when it is there it develops from fruity to some sort of dark roasted coffee and criollo chocolate. Not unpleasant. Just a bit confusing. This really is good juice. Throw in s tad of water or an cube of ice for a really good summer whisky or have it neat for creme brulee. Or just - have it. Easy to drink and well balanced

    Oh dear!

We bought this one on Border Shop (Puttgarten) in July and the price was more than half of what you charge as it was a special offer. It´s quite alright for being a Speyside, we prefer an Islay but couldn´t resist to buy it! :o)

I can get this easily here. The price is very reasonable. Best blended.

    Hmmmm....

I was very lucky to find a bottle of the Robur Reserve on sale, in an out of the way corner of Gibraltar, for some way below the listed price. (Good old Gibraltar!) It's pleasant but I've had better from Glenrothes... The Sherry Reserve, The Manse Reserve, the 1995, the 1998 are all superior (IMO, which counts for little). I would place this not far from the Select Reserve and suggest that, if you're eager to explore the Glenrothes, have a go at the 2001 - That's great!
