Glenrothes Whisky Maker's

The Whisky Maker's Cut expression from Glenrothes' Soleo Collection is completely matured in first-fill sherry seasoned casks, resulting in punchy notes of orange, cinnamon and dried fruit. The whole range is named after the process of sun-drying grapes in preparation for sherry production, hence the particularly heavy focus on sherry throughout the series.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Orange oil and blackberry jam, with drying oak in the background.

Palate Juicy sherry, crunchy brown sugar, a touch of boozy red wine, macadamia nuts.

Finish Sweet with chocolate and dried fruit.

Reviews for The Glenrothes Whisky Maker's Cut
Glenrothes = win
Loved it, went in with no expectations and a little question mark over the lack of age, but was really happy. Nice depth of flavour & smooth as a … well, something smooth!
As good as the 15/18 year olds in the cabinet that cost more, Glenrothes = win

No thanks
When a whisky maker asks "What do we have left in inventory?" and they answer "Not much and it's young." He then tells them "What ever, just dump everything in a first fill sherry oloroso cask." They then say "Can we get away with this?" to witch he answers " Don't worry, reviewers will talk about fruits."

Brilliant Dram
Had a taster as part of my drinks by the dram membership..... Excellent nose and a powerful complex but smooth finish, 7/10.
I don’t get why there is no age statement. But once could guess it’s around 15, as price it is positioned between the 12 YO and the 18 YO.

Good whisky. Good value for money.

Best of the core range
It's a wonderful dram for the price point. Why so much for a NAS? First-fill casks are expensive and yield a lot of flavour. A very welcome addition to the range, but if you don't like sherry casks then this is not for you.

GOOD VALUE
Nose is absolutely sensational! From here onwards it is still pretty good although I don't believe the sherry casks are all they are cracked up to be. Needs another 5 years in cask. This is the trade-off for the price.

Hidden gem
I too was a fan of the vintage expressions and felt a bit betrayed when they eliminated the entire line, after selling us on the concept for more than a decade. I fully expected to hate this bottle, and then I nosed it and tasted it and remembered why I fell in love with the brand. It’s damn good. And this bottle is a hidden gem in a line of age statement bottles

A new favourite for sure
Picked up a bottle of this the other day. Absolute stunner. Going to have to grab another to share with my family at xmas time, as this one will be gone by then.
