Glenmorangie The Quinta Ruban 12 Year Old

Sorry about this...

We can't actually ship Glenmorangie The Quinta Ruban 12 Year Old to you in United States at the moment. We're working on a solution.

Glenmorangie Quinta 12yo Bottling Note

This 12 year old is Glenmorangie's Port cask finished expression, dubbed Quinta Ruban. To craft this single malt, the liquid spent 10 years maturing in American white oak casks, before being transferred into specially selected ruby Port pipes from the Quintas (wine estates) of Portugal in the Douro valley. Expect oodles of fruity notes in this wonderfully rounded and complex whisky.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Full of winter berries and a touch of port. A good oak and a little cereal hanging in the substratum.

Palate: Sweet and thick. The port note is chewy and rich with notes of barley sugar and cereal and lots of juicy fruit and berries, a tad cloying.

Finish: Long and fruity and quite sweet.

Glenmorangie The Quinta Ruban 12 Year Old Reviews

Fine stuff

Love it. I also was a fan of the Portwood finish prior to this. The 14 is also good just not as "rich". Fan of all 3 though. Drink up lads.

24th August 2020

Scratch my review below. Glad to be so wrong

I’ve never had a whisky that has changed so much (Ina good way) from first opening. I now absolutely do understand the hype. This stuff has gone from tasting very average shortly after opening to a beautiful, rich, multi-layered chocolate, manuka, orange and spice.

17th May 2020

My favourite

Bought this years ago and can't seem to find it anywhere without breaking the bank! My favourite scotch ever. The sweetness of the port is lovely.

1st May 2020

Simply Amazing!

The finest Port finished Scotch and one the best Glenmorangie has to offer. The previous "Chocolate-Orange" comment really sums it up.

23rd January 2020

The chocolate orange Scotch

Outstanding whisky, really smooth for 46%. The flavour seems to be richer than the new 14 year.

26th December 2019

It's Ok.

13th December 2019

Worth every penny

Absolutely love this whiskey, by far my favourite
Easy drinking, has changed many of friends views on whiskey
Bonus is I love port
Happy Xmas

28th November 2019

Great desert whisky!

Picture this, Sunday dinner is finished, then a dark chocolate tort is brought out.
A slice is cut & cream poured over it & handed to u.

Next your asked would you like a drink....
Port, Commandaria, Madeira? Hell no, trust me ask for this!
Water if u want but all I think it needs is time to breath.

Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen.

26th September 2019

A fantastic smooth whiskey that is one of the finest I have tried.

15th September 2019

My favorite of the entire Glenmorangie brand.

The Quinta Ruban is the best tasting scotch that I have purchased and I have purchased it in 3 different locations in the St. Louis area as well as Arkansas and Springfield, Missouri. I have searched on line as well. I have not been successful. I sure hope you decide to ship more to the southwest Missouri area soon.

6th September 2019

Great taste

Had this direct from the distillery several years ago, absolutely beautiful

28th August 2019

Not for me harsh and young tasting. Back to Glenfarclas

27th August 2019

great intermediate level whisky

So I left my bottle open for 8 hours to let some air in then poured a dram and let that sit for 20-30 minutes.
I was surprised on the initial nosing to find it quite smoky, this is coming from someone who mainly drinks light Spey sides and Irish whiskeys and no smoky or peated whiskeys at all.
Im sure anyone who drinks peated whiskys even semi regularly will not find this smoke to be prominent at all. Behind the smoke the nose is extremely rich and sweet, I find dark fruits and black forest gateaux as the main smells.
I tried a sip neat and was blown away by the richness and depth of flavours compared to my usual light whiskeys although a tad sharp so I added about 5ml of water and that was the sweet spot for me.
I love this whisky already and look forward to seeing how it develops over time with added aeration. I have yet to try anything over 12 years old in age but this Quinta Ruban tastes like what I expect and 18 year old whisky should be like in my mind. Would definitely recommend. Bought from Amazon for £44.

24th June 2019

Well completed

A very pleasant overall. The nose is addictive and interesting. Taste is lighter, but aged 12 of course cannot have the final edge comparing to 18 or so. A very enjoyable one. Interesting is the right word. I think it will get even better in time. Just got first few cl's.. Complete one for the age, well matured.

24th June 2019

Meh...Tastes harsh and young. I was very excited to try this offering, but alcohol on the nose, and more alcohol on the pallet. I had to douse with water to taste the port influence. I've never had a bad Glenmorangie until I tried this. A far cry from the trusty and safe 10 year, and shameful compared to the Signet.

22nd June 2019

Strong bite and character

This is a very special kind of whisky. It has a burgundy red color and the bottle looks amazing. The smell is very strong and the flavor is very sherry like. It has a strong bite and character, maybe even a little bit of an alcohol taste and smell. But still very nice nonetheless.

12th June 2019

So good it is gone in a short evening

My favorite single - by far. As all of these are ‘rentals’ (at least at the rate I consume them) this is an affordable 12 yr single far better than other 18s and pricier singles.

11th June 2019

Delicious and pretty good value

Yum. Buttery smooth, bit of salt, but also some sweetness. Nice and rich too. Tastes more pricey than it is.

1st June 2019

Again and again

Repeat purchase forever if they keep this up at the price point.
One of my top 10 whiskies ever.
This never fails to remind me how it’s a top malt.
Perfect balance of richness, salt, wood, sweet, mouthfeel, lingering aftertaste.
Also very consistent having tried several bottles.
This outclasses so many in a much higher price bracket.

25th May 2019

This is superb! I'm not a professional in whisky and I also think that each assortment has its customers, so ratings under two stars should be seen with skepticism. However I've tried over 60 different whiskyes up to date, I'm a fan of Islay category, but in my humble opinion, this is a real diamond. If you like highlands, look no further!

19th April 2019

I received a sample of this and I just wasn’t a fan of this. I won’t knock anyone who is as I can see it would appeal to someone who likes port wine but is dry and really rich in dark fruit. I like sherry casks but this is just not for me.

4th April 2019

A bit breezy

Had it twice - once with fish and chips and the other with roasted cabbage. Gave me the wind both times.

7th March 2019

5 stars great value

Thick chocolate minty goodness. Amazing nose. Love it.

28th February 2019

A very classy drink. Very smooth, superb once opened for a month or so.
Sweet, balanced, mature. A staple in my collection.
Great mouthfeel, slightly prefer to lasanta burg both very good indeed

17th February 2019

Interesting profile

Haven’t had a Glenmo in ages and got this sample from a buddy. Uncorking the bottle, there was a prominent brandy aroma. Once in the glass, hay and malt.
On the palate was cereal, cocoa, berries and brown sugar, a subtle sweetness.
Long, malty finish with tobacco smoke later.
After a few drops of water more cereal emerged along with an odd astringency. Bit of leather, too.
Definitely tastes better without water. Would I buy this? Yes!

14th February 2019

Whisky for life!

Every single bottle just gets better! Beautiful, dark, deep, rich, complex and aromatic. Still the best after years of seeking for better

6th February 2019

Smells wonderful, tastes light

Definitely smell the port, not so much of the berries but there's grape sweetness and some hints of dark choc. The taste is a quick hit of sweet fruits, mellowing out to creamy salted butter for me. Not very spicy, not lasting in the mouth. The finish is abit weak for me. No smoke, no peat, little acidity. I dont seem to get any berries...i had 6 drops of water in my dram.

27th November 2018

Great addition!

From the moment you see the colour of this in the bottle you know the port is not going to be a subtle hint. It’s full of flavour and will take some time to figure out which isn’t a bad thing. Not a wine fan so it probably took me a little longer but I’ll probably keep a bottle of this in my collection for the foreseeable future. It’s also a great gateway whisky for ladies or wine drinkers obviously!

12th July 2018

Brandy flavoured whisky

A very pleasant whisky with lots of complex flavour. It definitely benefits from a little water to open it up.

My overwhelming impression of the finish was Cognac so the grape from the barrel has come through strongly.

Reviewed at 4.5/5 as I think there are whiskies as good as this for £10-£15 a bottle less.

18th June 2018

A very pleasant and relaxing quaff.

I really like it. It’s chewy, with a long finish and a comforting sweetness. I would definitely buy another bottle.

31st May 2018

Not for me

I bought the glenmorangie 4 bottle sampler. This one is probably my least favorite. This scotch brings way too much fruit to the table for me. Not a fan of berries in my whiskey. I'm a huge fan of Macleod's, which is an Islay, so I guess I need to stay in the realm of peat.

17th May 2018

Fruit forward, smooth with a hidden little bite, and nothing but a warm coating of the port finish.

This is my favorite of all the highlands. Perhaps is the port finish. Yes it does have a slight thickness to it, and I've been able to convince a friend to try it. So bought him his first bottle 2 weeks ago...just got his second one today. Alas another has fallen under the Glenmorangie spell. And just picked up a bottle of The Tayne, so I'll be pouring a dream of that shortly. Lovely.

4th May 2018

I will definitely be making another purchase!

Absolutely excellent one of the best for the money available!

18th March 2018

Excellent Quinta Ruban

Just love this malt the way the berries burst onto the palate and the sweet port coming through is quite irresistible have tried original, Lasanta but this one is my favourite.

3rd March 2018

6th February 2018

easy going, lacking complexity

Subtle nose of winterspice and stewed fruit, very mellow taste with only some port in the back of the throught to add some complexity, even mellower fruity sweet finish.

Overall lacking complexity, like drinking cheap bourbon with some port trown in it for good measure. Doesn't come near Glendronach 10yo bourbon/port matured or Glenglassaugh port wood for that matter.

6th February 2018

Glenmorangie quinta Ruban

Can't understand why there are any negative comments on this scotch for the price . If you haven't tried it buy it . I personally love this malt and don't take any notice of reviews. There probably planted anyway

29th January 2018

One of the best I have tasted I especially like the sweet port flavour

24th January 2018

A unique single malt and true pleasure.

24th January 2018

Super easy drinker, neat or rocks.

18th January 2018

Will buy it again

Good shit man

4th January 2018

I'm a Noob to single malt. Got this as a gift and fell in love.

1st January 2018

Sit back and enjoy the decadence.

Caramelly, creamy, smooth with a slight berry afternote. Not the most bang for the buck out there, but it definitely delivers.

29th December 2017

Not what I expected.

Does not taste like your typical scotch. Its flavor leans more to a bourbon than a traditional scotch whisky

28th December 2017

Best quality

Best quality! Andriau, esi meškutis.

24th December 2017

Great deep

True men drink! Great taste, smooth as my babe ass! Love it!

22nd December 2017

Better spend money on something else

Not what Ive expected. Just an ordinary 12yo. comments to add, only water :D

18th December 2017

This taste alot like great xmas pudding.. great after dinner drink to linger over

Xmas pudding

16th December 2017

Good but not great

Well taste is subjective. We all know that. Beatles v Stones, Titian v Monet. They’re different.
Given that I tend to side with the reviewer “yuck” who tasted alcohol but no port.
I admit to preferring the warmer, mellower Speyside malts, of which Glenmorangie is one of the best. But this one didn’t do it for me. Now I did really like the Lasanta!
As always, just a matter of taste. Neither right or wrong.

11th November 2017

Nice rich taste.. reminds me of chocolate. Happy with the port finish. Cheers from a Glendronach 18y fan...

Nice addition to the collection

23rd October 2017

A family favorite

I am not the dedicated scotch drinker in the family, but what I have drunk is smoother than any other. This is the one that is always in the cabinet.

13th October 2017

Great whisky

To each is their own, opened this up with a few of my buddies and it was amazing. Loved it!!

30th September 2017

An awesome whisky in its own right!

The Quinta Ruban is really something else. The influences of red wine goes well along with the that kind of creamy, chewy oak. With a few drops of water you get much more out of the nose as well. An amazing whisky indeed!

18th September 2017

Excellent smooth somewhat sweet.

Love the sweet Sherry finish and the unique color. Very smooth and nice finish with no harsh after taste.

18th July 2017

Macallan 12 knocking on the door in the background

Bought to try. Reminds me of a Macallan 12 a distant cousin that is overly sweet and over colored. Age statement and non chill filtered got me to buy it. The second glass may change my impression. Usually every second glass does!

11th July 2017

One of the best single malts in the market.

29th June 2017

Up there with the Aberlour and the old bottling of the Glenfiddich 15

As described but simply adding cube of ice the other aromas and flavours come alive.
The port is evident on first opening the bottle and first taste sees the port dance on the tounge while the spice tickles the tonsils.

Definitely the hero of the Glenmorangie mid range whisky offerings

28th June 2017

My Favorite

Turkish Delights, Dark Fruit, Sweet and Smooth!

15th June 2017

My Favourite!

I have only been drinking scotch for a few years now. I have had around 7 bottles and this is by far my favourite. So smooth with great taste

2nd June 2017

Fragrant and delicious

Bonus - it really puts my wife in the mood! Nothing else has quite the same effect.

11th May 2017

Fantastically different

Sweet and deep. Lots of cherry and chocolate. Doesn't longer too long. I prefer this one neat.

27th April 2017

I'm no expert. I can't discern singular flavors. I've been drinking Scotch most of my life. This is the most delicious I've ever had.

27th April 2017

Not really a whisky

This dram so heavily overloaded by port cask, that doesn't taste like scotch. Chocolate flavor is so strong that almost supresses barley itself. This is a great unique spirit - but not a scotch malt as we know it.

15th February 2017

Manhattan's Cousin

New bottle for $69.99 CAD. Pour a double in an old fashion glass. Let sit for 1 hour.

Nose: winter spices, blueberries, and fortified wine
Palate: thick, chewy fortified wine to start with, and to brown sugar/cereal, Black Forest cake with lots of cherry... it resembles a Manhattan cocktail but more refined.
Finish: Long, fruity, syrupy, sweet, vanilla, pepper.

I had the Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask at a whiskey tasting... in Calgary, Canada it goes around $85 CAD.

After reading all the reviews (thank you, reviewers!) I was going to get the more affordable Auchentoshan Three Wood for $63 CAD, but it was out of stock, so I listened to the guy at the store and bought this on sale for $69.99. A quick look-up and this one seems legit - so I bought it.

Comment, for newer guys:

If you are ready to move out of your "Speyside comfort zone" of Balvenie 12 Year Old DoubleWood or Glenmorangie 10 Year Old Original;

but not a fan of Islay;

and not interested in the honey-honey-honey Highlands,

and somehow you've enjoyed a well-made Manhattan,

this is your "third way" out.

Comment, for veterans:

For $69.99 CAD, I am not saying this is cheap. But I would definitely take this over a $66 CAD Balvenie DoubleWood or $63 CAD Highland Park 12.

14th February 2017

Really nice scotch...has nice depth and flavor. The extra two years in the Port casks really fills out the body of this dram. Deep, rich, sweet, and creamy....a bit different from the 10 year old classic (which I really like as well). One of my favorite From the Highlands!

5th February 2017

Poor mans Balvenie 21 port wood.

Nose has dark fruits, port and some alcohol. Mouth feel is good and spicey. Finish is mid/long sweet, dry and spicey.

5th February 2017

how interesting

People who rate less then 1 star seems always only bought a sample, how interesting

2nd February 2017

Massively disappointing. All I got on the nose was alcohol I couldn't smell any port and I know what port smells and tastes like. Taste was very bitter and acidic. I couldn't taste anything other than alcohol. Luckily I only bought a sample. Maybe the bottle is better but I'm not willing to take the chance.

25th January 2017

Absolutely amazing

Fantastic taste, beautiful color , pleasant smell. Highly recommended. Top shelf for me.

29th December 2016

Very nice! Beautiful port in the nose with slightly smokes like good cigar. Not very sweet. One of best whisky for this price.

24th December 2016

Quinta Ruban

Nice whiskey

22nd December 2016

Strong and sippable

Makes regular Glenmo taste overpriced by comparison. I like La Santa more but mainly because I feel it sips slower with the sherry mouth. I'd rate them the same maybe this one a touch higher for overall score.

It's great but skip if you don't like a LOT of port influence.

20th December 2016

One of my favorite Highlands Single Malts.
And definitely my favorite in the Glenmorangie range.

12th December 2016

Lovely dram!

Sweet, winey, fruity....beautiful dram.

11th December 2016

A delightful drink.

29th November 2016

5 stars

Ardbeg fan gives this one 5 stars.

23rd November 2016

Aye !

Aw its braw stuff this. Gets her heid spinning.

18th November 2016

Very pleased

I got my second bottle of Glenmorangie yesterday, this time the port finish and I'm very pleased with it. So delicious!

31st October 2016

My Husbands favourite.

5th October 2016

It's a go to

Pleasantly surprised. Had not had this one in the Glenmorangie line, and it has quickly become a favorite.

2nd October 2016

My favorite

I never liked scotch until I realized that what I did not like was peat. After sampling different non-peaty scotches, I went wild over this one. My number one.

1st October 2016

Very Good.

I recommend you try it.

23rd September 2016

Profumo intenso e sapore fantastico . Bevo whisky da poco tempo ed è il migliore in questa fascia di prezzo. Lo bevo volentieri senza allungarlo con acqua o ghiaccio

21st September 2016

You get what you pay for in life, and at almost double what i can buy regular glenmorangie for on roll back at the local supermarket this could be perceived as a tad pricy, but after trying it, all that goes out of the window, its a smooth and tasty dram, well worth the price. I wont repeat what others say about the nose and palete coz its all true - its truly a lovely drink

21st September 2016

Its like Calpol, but in a good way. Sticky, fruity and clings to your throat.

10th September 2016

The Best

Fruitcake, Christmas spice, bandage, raisin, sweet decadent caramel, thick & syrupy, oak, buttery. This has been my number one Scottish whisky. THE Scotch that got me into scotch. Even when I got my hands on a bottle of Nectar D'or and I first opened the bottle, QR won. Now that Nectar D'or has sat for about 3 weeks, it has officially settled down and became the nectar that I imaged when I bought it and has officially surpassed QR in taste/aroma. However, you can't beat the quality of QR for the price/availability. It is my favorite Scottish Whiskey, and will forever have a place on my shelf.

4th September 2016

My prized possession

A masterpiece. So sweet and full, it is by far the greatest whiskey I have ever tasted and has begun my journey to explore each style of Scottish Whiskey from their respective regions and has freed me from the habit of using ice. When I first tried it, I put 2 cubes of ice as I usually did. It was so delicious I felt I was doing it a disservice and wanted to taste it in it's fullness. Since doing so I drink all my whiskeys neat and Quinta Ruban is responsible for that. Must try!

20th August 2016

My personal favorite

Forgot to enter rating...

24th July 2016

My personal favorite

10 years in ex bourbon, and 2+ years in Douro port pipes, add to that non-chill filtered and uncolored. At 46 abv there is enough playroom for tiny splash of distilled water, which make the hidden aromas and flavors in this dram POP. For this price range it is my go-to single malt. Cannot be beat.

24th July 2016

This is an amazing whisky. In this price bracket I've not found anything that compares. Smooth, creamy, fruity, chocolate with a nice port in the background. I once heard that Glenmorangie was like fairies piddling on your tongue - they got some very special fairies in to make the Quinta Ruban...

20th July 2016

My new favorite scotch!

Chocolate, cereal, raisin, dark berries, orange, charred oak. So complex with so many layers making defining aromas and tastes a challenging yet beautiful thing to do. It may take a couple sessions with this to find them all, which I will most happily do.

17th July 2016

Can't have just one

The Quinta Ruban is one of my favorite scotches, and one that I can't have just one glass, it is so smooth and flavorful.

This 12 year port cast version kicks it up a notch. There is so much complexity and beauty in the aroma and flavor. This is easily in my top 5 ever. It is by far the cheapest member of my top five which is also a plus.

12th July 2016

The Best in this price range!!

Very well balanced and non-chill-filtered! Chocolate, oranges, nutmeg, berries (raspberries, blackberries, cranberries), a tad of raisins, with a tiny hint of smoke... way back in the distance. Simply AMAZING!! Admirable complexity for a 12yo and by far the best among Glenmorangie's extra matured range!

25th June 2016

Excellence all around!

Keep coming back to it as it's wonderful with a Cuban cigar! Unbeatable price for the quality!

16th June 2016

Excellent all around!

Keep coming back to it as it's wonderful with a Cuban cigar!

16th June 2016

My favorite scotch

My favorite Scotch.

27th May 2016

one of the best values in whisky

an extremely high-end whisky for a very reasonable price. non-chill filtered, 46%abv. and a wonderfully rich, chocolaty, raisiny finish

11th May 2016

For port and sherry finish lovers

This is regularly in stock in my scotch cabinet. Sip it slowly and neat

8th May 2016

Keep Coming Back

I keep finding myself coming back to wonderful Scotch. My wife and I came across this a few years ago and have found it be one of favorites. I find this spirt goes as well with a good cigar as any fine port may.

21st April 2016

Still delicious

The bottle I am drinking from I brought back from Scotland in 1996. I enjoyed it when I was visiting Scotland, so I brought home a bottle. It is as delicious as I remember.

16th April 2016

A winner

Too Good!

14th April 2016

Qué rico y profundo!

Me gustó mucho, tenía mucho tiempo sin probar un whisky que me sorprendiera tanto al final.
El color es muy profundo y su cuerpo también.
Me parece una excelente relación precio calidad.

3rd March 2016

Great whisky. On my second sample bottle. I keep buying the original with the samples of this and Lasanta.

14th February 2016

Wonderful start with Hazelnut and Oak , Rush of Orchard Fruit , long Tangy Smooth Finish ... A Solid 9 +

12th February 2016

Excellent. Never had my taste buds stimulated before until I kissed the sweet Quinta Ruban. Im done.

20th January 2016

What an interesting dram! Simply delectable!

23rd December 2015

This is art

Budget price, Very colorful taste ,denitely a 10 for me

20th December 2015

Bargain of the month

Just got a bottle for £36. When I got over the startling pink ruby colour and the very light nose this made my day. I hope they have another bottle when I go back. Sumptuous berry flavours, incredibly smooth all the way down. You can tell they're old casks because it's light on oak. definitely not the best whisky I've had but fantastic value for money. Can't wait to share with whisky friends.

10th December 2015

Quality whisky. Warm, spicy, smooth. Chocolate, honey, and nice oak flavour Port finish adds a slight sweetness but not overpowering (I don't like sweet whiskies). Bottled sensibly at 46%, it's a clean, well-defined flavour. On par with the Nectar D'or, maybe slightly better. Opens up with a small dash of water.

5th December 2015

Updated review

Previously I indicated that the taste of port was to strong for me. However, after enjoying a full bottle of this excellent scotch, I have revised my opinion, and now give Quinta Ruban five stars. The dark rich flavor is indeed outstanding. And definitely this should never be diluted with ice! The only way to enjoy such a drink is NEAT!

21st November 2015

To the reviewer who said "Horrible Whisky"

From your review I'm left assuming that you add ice to most or all of your spirits this is not the case with a single malt whisky, it is not a cocktail this will serve no purpose other than to destroy the flavour and nose and been cold give you a headache this is knowen as "brain freeze" ! . A single malt whisky should be consumed at room temperature and rare occasions a teaspoon of water can be added to open up or coax a little more flavour and just to point out one ice cube can contain between 10 to 50 teaspoons of water !

18th November 2015

Very smooth, but strong taste of port

Personally, I liked the La Santa much better, aa it had a stronger barley taste, and less of the wine cask. But for a very good taste, the Quinta Ruban should be tried and compared for yourself.

18th November 2015

Very Smooth

What a whisky, very smooth, enjoyable. Nice taste.

28th October 2015

Very Good

A step up from the 10. Smooth, good flavor. Not as nice as the Lasanta, but you won't be sorry trying this.

23rd October 2015

29th July 2015

Great whisky

Absolutely fantastic!

28th July 2015

Compares well with other single malts I've tried

While I generally prefer cask-strength single malts like Auchentoshan's, this one is delightful: very smooth & tasty & relatively potent (definitely for sipping... to savor the experience).

27th July 2015

All malts

I notice that one of your reviewers add ICE to his/her malt whisky. This is sacrilage. Kills the flavour!!!Should be drunk at ambient temperature ALWAYS.

11th July 2015

i've only experienced 15-20 single malts but also like cognac. this,to me as an inexperienced taster found the taste was more like the latter. I want more.

7th July 2015

good bottle

I love this. Amazing stuff.

27th June 2015

I like it

Sweet and fruity. Very enjoyable whisky. Love port cask finish.

Horrible whisky

in a regular whisky drinker And I love the taste of a good whisky on ice, I love the fact that I don't get headaches from whisky, this is not the case with this bottle. it smells cheap and tastes horrible and gives you headaches right away . won't ever buy it again

24th May 2015

Very good

Don't normally drink whiskey but this is lovely. I'm hooked already. Perfect for my discerning palate.

One of the best if not THE Best

Probably the best I've had so far. The first botttle was a revelation -I'd never had anything like this before. Port and sherry, toffee and caramel, dark chocolate, spices, a little orange peel. Bursting with flavor, and had neat on a winter's night it had a heat and punch you wouldn't believe - a bit like taking a swig of spiced hot chocolate that's too hot. Surprisingly, the last bottle I had was a wee bit disappointing - I found too much alcohol on the palate and finish, as if I was drinking two, was beautifully flavorsome, but the other was just cheap spirit. Maybe it was just the batch, because it got a lot better as the bottle got older. Still, I've had 3-4 bottles of this, and has to be one of the best, if not The Best I've ever had.

4th March 2015

very drinkable fruity beauty

I bought a litre bottle of this at duty free. It is a deliciously sweet aromatic dram. The nose is full of Christmas fruits with a big swig of Port. This continues onto the palate with lovely sweetness of fruit and port. A very well balanced whisky with just the right amount of wood, fruit and alcohol . This whisky is on my permanent list from now on, great value for money.

23rd February 2015

I'm a fairly new single malt drinker, following Glinlivet 12, and Glinfiddich 12. I prefer my Scotch on the rocks...slight rocks. WOW! What a delicious dram this is. Mellow, honey...just a delectable smooth, slightly fruity..almost imperceptible fruitiness at the finish. Really opens up on the finish with a little ice. This bottle has taught me what a good single malt Scotch is all about. Such loving on the back of the palate!

Bourbon Drinker

PvW 12 and up bourbon snob, I must say this is moved to my top shelf and I'm not routinely a Scotch drinker. Beautiful color, complex, somewhat sweet and a lingering smooth finish.

29th December 2014

Great for the price

To start, absolutely beautiful color. Copper red, the color is very compelling.

Aroma: Honey, slight citrus fruit

Taste: Sweet citrus and port flavors, very smooth. A small hint of smokiness and bitters at the end.

17th December 2014

Tried this very smooth malt, which is the best I have

28th November 2014

Glenmorangie have done a lovely job on this ... Lovely, full of flavour, spice, fruit, port and sweet to the taste. Intriguing lovely dark colour too. Yes, it's a bit gimmicky, and probably overpriced as a result of an extensive marketing ploy, but really it is worth it.

21st October 2014

the best

Out and out fav for the price. Have tasted betterbut much more expensive ♥

11th October 2014

Mmmm so good

A true enjoyment in a glass. Very smooth, fruity, and sweet with a hint of smoke.

11th October 2014

Not a fan

Personally I think the finishing on Port pipes is a waste of good 10yo Glenmorangie. The finishing ruins it because the casks must be sub-standard. There is something unclean, sulfury about this one. Still it is much, much better than the Lasanta (trust Jim Murrey regarding the Lasanta)

24th September 2014

Worth trying

Usually a fan of Sherried malts, and the Glenmorangie La Santa. Gave this a try, was certainly worth it! Nose: Sweet Sweet Porto!! Palate: Strong notes of Porto Wine as soon as it hits the tongue, and some notes of menthol, immediately complimented by a nice spicy finish. It has a unique pinkish color in good lighting which is really inviting. If you're looking for something different for a reasonable price, definitely give this a try.

My Favourite Malt

This is my goto malt, just love this so much, can't have enough bottles on standby. Velvet smooth a little sweet but not as much as the nectar d'or.

18th August 2014

Only secondary aromas (wood), barely any primary (make) or tertiary (age)

Without knowing what it was made of the first nosing told me there's new wood and port in there, and that's about it. Tasting confirmed that impression, the rather thin and underwhelming taste of the current Glenmo make can barely be discerned under all that wood tone - wood tone that would taste and smell the same with any other make. Despite being finished in port this reminds me a bit of the latest A'bunadh batches which have noticeable new wood in them too, but whereas the A'bu has balls this one is a slick, oily, overproduced thing. Doesn't take to water at all, the structure begins to break at ½ a teaspoon already. It does not taste bad (in fact it's very quaffable) but all those medals listed there on the left side of the page are a bit of a joke. If this is what wins competitions I think I'd rather drink from the bottles that don't win.

7th August 2014

What a very nice malt this is!

Bought by my son as a Fathers Day gift for me. He knows I like single malts and thought this would be a new one for me. He wasn't wrong and whilst its much smoother than many of my usual tipples I am delighted with the finish and flavours. I an cutting it with about 30% of room temperature still water to reveal the best of it. If I don't get any more as presents I will have to buy some!!

15th June 2014

No nonsense

I refute all of the poncey descriptions about oak with a touch of country farm gate - but I will say that this is a damned nice drink which reminds me of old time Christmases

15th June 2014

This is a vert nice whiskey. Start early, come home late; nothing is better than a glass on the veranda.
Veldig bra.

3rd June 2014

cloying is spot on

'Cloying' rings most true for me. A spot of water opens it out but what comes out is harsh and thin.

By the time I find the right balance of whisky and water the bottle will be done and good riddance.

31st May 2014

Great Port Wood finish

One of my fave of all times is the Balvenie 21 Portwood.... it is very expensive, especially here in Canada. This is a great alternative almost as good, very enjoyable... for everyday!

5th May 2014

Mr. panos dental office

silky a smooth fragrance of chocolate and a nice taste in palate.. i recommend tasting with a fig ..

30th April 2014

The finish is quite frankly well done. It has nothing to do with the botched distiller's editions that you find on the market at a premium. I usually prefer peated scotch, but I'll probably revisit this one frequently.

29th April 2014

Very moreish

A 50th birthday prezzie from my father in law! Fantastically smooth and wholly drinkable. The decanter lasted a fortnight, with many a sneaky visit to the drinks cupboard.

21st April 2014

A bit too much berry start but fell quickly to a barley/oak tone with a cherry finish that is good for the non-scotch drinker to explore and enjoy.

11th April 2014

Fantastic finish

As a rather new comer to single malts I am still finding my way, but I may have arrived with this purchase. I absolutely love the smooth finish and rich tastes. The Port Casks finish is subtle but a well-received refinement. Highly recommended.

7th April 2014

Where have you been, all my life?

This has to be the best whisky under $50.00... PERIOD! The quality Port casks Glenmorangie selects, plus the intrinsic qualities of their 10 year old original, like the herbal, floral, citrus, baked goods are noticeable within the spirit. But, now with added layers of dark chocolate, slight espresso, caramel, sweet Port, toffee, nutmeg. Its rich, earthy and velvety with a medium to long finish. Then on top of that, Glenmorangie throws it at you non-chilled filtered, for that unadulterated, mouth-coating texture, 46% abv, and no caramel color added. What a bargain!

19th February 2014

One of the best

very smooth. Prefered one over most other Scotch

6th January 2014

Spot on

An excellent port cask finished malt full of fruity notes and silky smooth with a long rich finish. I buy it often when on offer for about£30-£32.One of the best finished whiskey"s on the market.

24th December 2013

After reading the reviews i was expecting a really smooth whiskey but this is not smooth it reminds me of drinking a cheap whiskey. I have tried many single malts and was really looking forwards to this. Its drinkable and has a lovely nose but the taste doesn't match. i wont be buying it again once this bottle is empty.

26th November 2013

Wow, it's red, it's very tasty.

That's all I can say, Wow! Quinta Ruban: This is really special stuff. It's red. I was a wee bit leary of the double casking, but I like it. So happy I have it in the collection. I'm definitely going to try other Glenmorangie selections, and other double cask choices as well.

8th November 2013

Very nice taste... not so great price....Regularly on offer thankfully

Yeah, Ill pick this up EVERY time it is on offer for about £32 in the supermarket. But £40+ quid? Really..... much better off exploring the Japanese market at that price. Or even save yourself £10 and get Green Spot. Jason Breen. Actually, Maybe even save yourself £20 and buy Black Bush.

1st November 2013

Love it

Very nice. So smooth and the taste is lovely.

13th October 2013

It's really a girly whiskey.. so gentle and sweet.

But what can I say? Yummy! Best dessert available!

4th August 2013

I've been drinking Glenmorangie a while and recently discovered this gem. The first time I had it, there was an audible "wow" with every sip. I prefer this to just about any other whiskey that I've tried. Smells beautiful too.

3rd August 2013

Like a fine dessert

Nose is full of vanilla, caramel fudge, apricots. Taste is smooth and very dessert-like, and very, very tasty. Couldn't keep my hands off the glass!

21st July 2013

Forgot to rate

Sorry, Suberb = superb

20th July 2013

Smooth, creamy and very spicy. Its not so sweet and floral like Nectar version. It smells like others glenmorangies - wonderfully. Great wiskhy.

20th July 2013

Accurate description, and a beautiful ruby reflection. Now this, is a whiskey.

21st June 2013

(Translation using Google Translate: I'm from Ukraine (one of the countries of the former Soviet Union, which is in Europe) fond of single malt whiskey, tried a lot of different ones. This is not much, expect a lot, but did not meet even a small, lightweight (first impression), the taste is felt port wine, alcohol and something else very familiar ... but could not remember that, then realized with surprise - Bunnahabhain 12, not my malt, sort of a srednyachok. Feedback was greatly exaggerated.)

8th June 2013

McPherson, Chicago

The sweetness of the port cask dominates the nose and palate melting into a creamy dark chocolate. Very smooth creamy body with a complimentary spiciness. I am not picking up the mint, but I did find a red cola/kola cube in the candied Esther's. This is a real beaut and will pair well with a number of desserts or as a post prandial delight.

13th May 2013

Newly added to my collection...lovely lovely whisky. So many flavours. The bourbon flavours obvious, port less so but there. Really tasty. My collection is just moving from islay whiskies...a slow progress I confess.

12th April 2013

Great Scotch

Just finished my 1st ever bottle and will start on the 2nd but not the last. Definately in my top 3!

9th March 2013

One of the finest

I do the rounds with single malts & have done so for many years. This was a very pleasant surprise and I can honestly say that I have not sampled a dram more enjoyable to my palate than the Quinta Ruban.

24th December 2012

Beautiful..............this and its stablemate, Lasanta are superb Morangie Whiskies..This is my favorite though, probably as I like a good port as well.

19th August 2012

Game Changer

This is the scotch that made me fall in love with the drink, and I drink it whenever it is available. Hands down the most pleasingly palatable whiskey I've ever had... Candied violets on the nose and a warm, salted-caramel finish. This is the scotch I hand to people who "hate" scotch. Sufficed to say, it has yet to fail in changing that opinion!

8th August 2012

Pappy van winkle

A very nice, smooth malt, heavily ported for 2 years making this the perfect evening dram. Reminds me of an old Bourbon like PvW 20...yes it is nearly that good..Would agree with Glen V, that it is superior to the Balvenie.....90% rating....

6th August 2012

Superbly smooth

This is one of the smoothest and elegant malts I have tried and one that I will buy again. I tend just to have one in the evening but this one beckons for a second helping usually

1st August 2012

Glen V

I think it may be the finest port wood scotch. Better than the Balvenie 21 portwood at nearly 4 times the price. Super!!

Brian Kennedy

Started years ago with Glenfiddich, to Glenlivet to Macallan, but have found my home with Morangie. Especially this one, the Quinta Ruban. Relatively affordable to purchase regualarly yet so much better than some more expensive drams I've had in the past. Port casks REALLY do Scotch Whisky justice.....BEST YET! Slàinte mhòr !

So smooth berries chocolate all exploding in a bomb of beauty

17th November 2011

I have moved from Dalwhinnie to Macallan to Balvenie and many unnecessaries in between. I also tried the various Glenmorangie wood finishes but was not impressed. However, the Quinta Ruban Port wood finish is astounding! I inhale orange rind in honey with a hint of allspice. The finish lingers long. Then, for a bit of rough, I sip into Bunnabhain.

HB Scotch Lover

I have been a whisky lover for the past 8 yrs and out of all the single malt whisky of 12 yrs aging, i would rate this as the best so far.

31st August 2011

I love this whisky,so smooth

18th August 2011

A great place to start.....

I have only recently got into drinking "proper" whisky and I was bought this as an xmas present. After reading the description on the bottle I was sceptical, but it truly does have a taste of dark chocolate and mint, its smooth, and really easy to drink. I'd recommend to anyone
