Quinta Ruban is Glenmorangie's port finish. To craft this single malt they specially selected Port pipes from the Douro valley in Portugal.
Nose: Full of winter berries and a touch of port. A good oak and a little cereal hanging in the substratum.
Palate: Sweet and thick. The port note is chewy and rich with notes of barley sugar and cereal and lots of juicy fruit and berries, a tad cloying.
Finish: Long and fruity and quite sweet.

This dram so heavily overloaded by port cask, that doesn't taste like scotch. Chocolate flavor is so strong that almost supresses barley itself. This is a great unique spirit - but not a scotch malt as we know it.

New bottle for $69.99 CAD. Pour a double in an old fashion glass. Let sit for 1 hour.Nose: winter spices, blueberries, and fortified winePalate: thick, chewy fortified wine to start with, and to brown sugar/cereal, Black Forest cake with lots of cherry... it resembles a Manhattan cocktail but more refined. Finish: Long, fruity, syrupy, sweet, vanilla, pepper. I had the Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask at a whiskey tasting... in Calgary, Canada it goes around $85 CAD. After reading all the reviews (thank you, reviewers!) I was going to get the more affordable Auchentoshan Three Wood for $63 CAD, but it was out of stock, so I listened to the guy at the store and bought this on sale for $69.99. A quick look-up and this one seems legit - so I bought it. Comment, for newer guys:If you are ready to move out of your "Speyside comfort zone" of Balvenie 12 Year Old DoubleWood or Glenmorangie 10 Year Old Original;but not a fan of Islay;and not interested in the honey-honey-honey Highlands, and somehow you've enjoyed a well-made Manhattan, this is your "third way" out. Comment, for veterans:For $69.99 CAD, I am not saying this is cheap. But I would definitely take this over a $66 CAD Balvenie DoubleWood or $63 CAD Highland Park 12.

Really nice scotch...has nice depth and flavor. The extra two years in the Port casks really fills out the body of this dram. Deep, rich, sweet, and creamy....a bit different from the 10 year old classic (which I really like as well). One of my favorite From the Highlands!
5th February 2017
Nose has dark fruits, port and some alcohol. Mouth feel is good and spicey. Finish is mid/long sweet, dry and spicey.
People who rate less then 1 star seems always only bought a sample, how interesting
2nd February 2017
Massively disappointing. All I got on the nose was alcohol I couldn't smell any port and I know what port smells and tastes like. Taste was very bitter and acidic. I couldn't taste anything other than alcohol. Luckily I only bought a sample. Maybe the bottle is better but I'm not willing to take the chance.

Fantastic taste, beautiful color , pleasant smell. Highly recommended. Top shelf for me.
29th December 2016
Very nice! Beautiful port in the nose with slightly smokes like good cigar. Not very sweet. One of best whisky for this price.
24th December 2016
22nd December 2016
Makes regular Glenmo taste overpriced by comparison. I like La Santa more but mainly because I feel it sips slower with the sherry mouth. I'd rate them the same maybe this one a touch higher for overall score. It's great but skip if you don't like a LOT of port influence.
20th December 2016
One of my favorite Highlands Single Malts. And definitely my favorite in the Glenmorangie range.
12th December 2016
Sweet, winey, fruity....beautiful dram.

I got my second bottle of Glenmorangie yesterday, this time the port finish and I'm very pleased with it. So delicious!
31st October 2016
My Husbands favourite.
5th October 2016
Pleasantly surprised. Had not had this one in the Glenmorangie line, and it has quickly become a favorite.
2nd October 2016
I never liked scotch until I realized that what I did not like was peat. After sampling different non-peaty scotches, I went wild over this one. My number one.
1st October 2016
I recommend you try it.
23rd September 2016
Profumo intenso e sapore fantastico . Bevo whisky da poco tempo ed è il migliore in questa fascia di prezzo. Lo bevo volentieri senza allungarlo con acqua o ghiaccio
21st September 2016
You get what you pay for in life, and at almost double what i can buy regular glenmorangie for on roll back at the local supermarket this could be perceived as a tad pricy, but after trying it, all that goes out of the window, its a smooth and tasty dram, well worth the price. I wont repeat what others say about the nose and palete coz its all true - its truly a lovely drink
Its like Calpol, but in a good way. Sticky, fruity and clings to your throat.
10th September 2016
Fruitcake, Christmas spice, bandage, raisin, sweet decadent caramel, thick & syrupy, oak, buttery. This has been my number one Scottish whisky. THE Scotch that got me into scotch. Even when I got my hands on a bottle of Nectar D'or and I first opened the bottle, QR won. Now that Nectar D'or has sat for about 3 weeks, it has officially settled down and became the nectar that I imaged when I bought it and has officially surpassed QR in taste/aroma. However, you can't beat the quality of QR for the price/availability. It is my favorite Scottish Whiskey, and will forever have a place on my shelf.
4th September 2016
A masterpiece. So sweet and full, it is by far the greatest whiskey I have ever tasted and has begun my journey to explore each style of Scottish Whiskey from their respective regions and has freed me from the habit of using ice. When I first tried it, I put 2 cubes of ice as I usually did. It was so delicious I felt I was doing it a disservice and wanted to taste it in it's fullness. Since doing so I drink all my whiskeys neat and Quinta Ruban is responsible for that. Must try!

10 years in ex bourbon, and 2+ years in Douro port pipes, add to that non-chill filtered and uncolored. At 46 abv there is enough playroom for tiny splash of distilled water, which make the hidden aromas and flavors in this dram POP. For this price range it is my go-to single malt. Cannot be beat.
This is an amazing whisky. In this price bracket I've not found anything that compares. Smooth, creamy, fruity, chocolate with a nice port in the background. I once heard that Glenmorangie was like fairies piddling on your tongue - they got some very special fairies in to make the Quinta Ruban...
20th July 2016
Chocolate, cereal, raisin, dark berries, orange, charred oak. So complex with so many layers making defining aromas and tastes a challenging yet beautiful thing to do. It may take a couple sessions with this to find them all, which I will most happily do.
17th July 2016
The Quinta Ruban is one of my favorite scotches, and one that I can't have just one glass, it is so smooth and flavorful. This 12 year port cast version kicks it up a notch. There is so much complexity and beauty in the aroma and flavor. This is easily in my top 5 ever. It is by far the cheapest member of my top five which is also a plus.
12th July 2016
Very well balanced and non-chill-filtered! Chocolate, oranges, nutmeg, berries (raspberries, blackberries, cranberries), a tad of raisins, with a tiny hint of smoke... way back in the distance. Simply AMAZING!! Admirable complexity for a 12yo and by far the best among Glenmorangie's extra matured range!
25th June 2016
Keep coming back to it as it's wonderful with a Cuban cigar! Unbeatable price for the quality!
16th June 2016
Keep coming back to it as it's wonderful with a Cuban cigar!
My favorite Scotch.
27th May 2016
an extremely high-end whisky for a very reasonable price. non-chill filtered, 46%abv. and a wonderfully rich, chocolaty, raisiny finish
11th May 2016
This is regularly in stock in my scotch cabinet. Sip it slowly and neat
8th May 2016
I keep finding myself coming back to wonderful Scotch. My wife and I came across this a few years ago and have found it be one of favorites. I find this spirt goes as well with a good cigar as any fine port may.
21st April 2016
The bottle I am drinking from I brought back from Scotland in 1996. I enjoyed it when I was visiting Scotland, so I brought home a bottle. It is as delicious as I remember.

Me gustó mucho, tenía mucho tiempo sin probar un whisky que me sorprendiera tanto al final. El color es muy profundo y su cuerpo también. Me parece una excelente relación precio calidad.
3rd March 2016
Great whisky. On my second sample bottle. I keep buying the original with the samples of this and Lasanta.
14th February 2016
Wonderful start with Hazelnut and Oak , Rush of Orchard Fruit , long Tangy Smooth Finish ... A Solid 9 +
12th February 2016
Excellent. Never had my taste buds stimulated before until I kissed the sweet Quinta Ruban. Im done.

What an interesting dram! Simply delectable!
23rd December 2015
Budget price, Very colorful taste ,denitely a 10 for me
20th December 2015
Just got a bottle for £36. When I got over the startling pink ruby colour and the very light nose this made my day. I hope they have another bottle when I go back. Sumptuous berry flavours, incredibly smooth all the way down. You can tell they're old casks because it's light on oak. definitely not the best whisky I've had but fantastic value for money. Can't wait to share with whisky friends.
10th December 2015
Quality whisky. Warm, spicy, smooth. Chocolate, honey, and nice oak flavour Port finish adds a slight sweetness but not overpowering (I don't like sweet whiskies). Bottled sensibly at 46%, it's a clean, well-defined flavour. On par with the Nectar D'or, maybe slightly better. Opens up with a small dash of water.
5th December 2015
Previously I indicated that the taste of port was to strong for me. However, after enjoying a full bottle of this excellent scotch, I have revised my opinion, and now give Quinta Ruban five stars. The dark rich flavor is indeed outstanding. And definitely this should never be diluted with ice! The only way to enjoy such a drink is NEAT!
21st November 2015
From your review I'm left assuming that you add ice to most or all of your spirits this is not the case with a single malt whisky, it is not a cocktail this will serve no purpose other than to destroy the flavour and nose and been cold give you a headache this is knowen as "brain freeze" ! . A single malt whisky should be consumed at room temperature and rare occasions a teaspoon of water can be added to open up or coax a little more flavour and just to point out one ice cube can contain between 10 to 50 teaspoons of water !
18th November 2015
Personally, I liked the La Santa much better, aa it had a stronger barley taste, and less of the wine cask. But for a very good taste, the Quinta Ruban should be tried and compared for yourself.
What a whisky, very smooth, enjoyable. Nice taste.
28th October 2015
A step up from the 10. Smooth, good flavor. Not as nice as the Lasanta, but you won't be sorry trying this.
23rd October 2015
Very good scotch. Smooth and rich.
Walking into misty glomen see long lost good people enjoying peat fire drams of glenmorangie that takes me back aye!!!
22nd October 2015
Love the port finish. Excellent whisky. The only one!

28th July 2015
While I generally prefer cask-strength single malts like Auchentoshan's, this one is delightful: very smooth & tasty & relatively potent (definitely for sipping... to savor the experience).
27th July 2015
I notice that one of your reviewers add ICE to his/her malt whisky. This is sacrilage. Kills the flavour!!!Should be drunk at ambient temperature ALWAYS.
11th July 2015
i've only experienced 15-20 single malts but also like cognac. this,to me as an inexperienced taster found the taste was more like the latter. I want more.
7th July 2015
I love this. Amazing stuff.
27th June 2015
Sweet and fruity. Very enjoyable whisky. Love port cask finish.
29th May 2015
in a regular whisky drinker And I love the taste of a good whisky on ice, I love the fact that I don't get headaches from whisky, this is not the case with this bottle. it smells cheap and tastes horrible and gives you headaches right away . won't ever buy it again
24th May 2015
Don't normally drink whiskey but this is lovely. I'm hooked already. Perfect for my discerning palate.
25th April 2015
31st March 2015
Probably the best I've had so far. The first botttle was a revelation -I'd never had anything like this before. Port and sherry, toffee and caramel, dark chocolate, spices, a little orange peel. Bursting with flavor, and had neat on a winter's night it had a heat and punch you wouldn't believe - a bit like taking a swig of spiced hot chocolate that's too hot. Surprisingly, the last bottle I had was a wee bit disappointing - I found too much alcohol on the palate and finish, as if I was drinking two liquids...one, was beautifully flavorsome, but the other was just cheap spirit. Maybe it was just the batch, because it got a lot better as the bottle got older. Still, I've had 3-4 bottles of this, and has to be one of the best, if not The Best I've ever had.
4th March 2015
I bought a litre bottle of this at duty free. It is a deliciously sweet aromatic dram. The nose is full of Christmas fruits with a big swig of Port. This continues onto the palate with lovely sweetness of fruit and port. A very well balanced whisky with just the right amount of wood, fruit and alcohol . This whisky is on my permanent list from now on, great value for money.
23rd February 2015
I'm a fairly new single malt drinker, following Glinlivet 12, and Glinfiddich 12. I prefer my Scotch on the rocks...slight rocks. WOW! What a delicious dram this is. Mellow, honey...just a delectable smooth, slightly fruity..almost imperceptible fruitiness at the finish. Really opens up on the finish with a little ice. This bottle has taught me what a good single malt Scotch is all about. Such loving on the back of the palate!
10th February 2015
PvW 12 and up bourbon snob, I must say this is moved to my top shelf and I'm not routinely a Scotch drinker. Beautiful color, complex, somewhat sweet and a lingering smooth finish.
29th December 2014
To start, absolutely beautiful color. Copper red, the color is very compelling.Aroma: Honey, slight citrus fruitTaste: Sweet citrus and port flavors, very smooth. A small hint of smokiness and bitters at the end.
17th December 2014
Tried this very smooth malt, which is the best I have tasted.top
28th November 2014
Glenmorangie have done a lovely job on this ... Lovely, full of flavour, spice, fruit, port and sweet to the taste. Intriguing lovely dark colour too. Yes, it's a bit gimmicky, and probably overpriced as a result of an extensive marketing ploy, but really it is worth it.
21st October 2014
Out and out fav for the price. Have tasted betterbut much more expensive ♥
11th October 2014
A true enjoyment in a glass. Very smooth, fruity, and sweet with a hint of smoke.
Personally I think the finishing on Port pipes is a waste of good 10yo Glenmorangie. The finishing ruins it because the casks must be sub-standard. There is something unclean, sulfury about this one. Still it is much, much better than the Lasanta (trust Jim Murrey regarding the Lasanta)
24th September 2014
Usually a fan of Sherried malts, and the Glenmorangie La Santa. Gave this a try, was certainly worth it! Nose: Sweet Sweet Porto!! Palate: Strong notes of Porto Wine as soon as it hits the tongue, and some notes of menthol, immediately complimented by a nice spicy finish. It has a unique pinkish color in good lighting which is really inviting. If you're looking for something different for a reasonable price, definitely give this a try.
6th September 2014
This is my goto malt, just love this so much, can't have enough bottles on standby. Velvet smooth a little sweet but not as much as the nectar d'or.
18th August 2014
Without knowing what it was made of the first nosing told me there's new wood and port in there, and that's about it. Tasting confirmed that impression, the rather thin and underwhelming taste of the current Glenmo make can barely be discerned under all that wood tone - wood tone that would taste and smell the same with any other make. Despite being finished in port this reminds me a bit of the latest A'bunadh batches which have noticeable new wood in them too, but whereas the A'bu has balls this one is a slick, oily, overproduced thing. Doesn't take to water at all, the structure begins to break at ½ a teaspoon already. It does not taste bad (in fact it's very quaffable) but all those medals listed there on the left side of the page are a bit of a joke. If this is what wins competitions I think I'd rather drink from the bottles that don't win.
7th August 2014
Bought by my son as a Fathers Day gift for me. He knows I like single malts and thought this would be a new one for me. He wasn't wrong and whilst its much smoother than many of my usual tipples I am delighted with the finish and flavours. I an cutting it with about 30% of room temperature still water to reveal the best of it. If I don't get any more as presents I will have to buy some!!
15th June 2014
I refute all of the poncey descriptions about oak with a touch of country farm gate - but I will say that this is a damned nice drink which reminds me of old time Christmases
This is a vert nice whiskey. Start early, come home late; nothing is better than a glass on the veranda. Veldig bra.
3rd June 2014
'Cloying' rings most true for me. A spot of water opens it out but what comes out is harsh and thin. By the time I find the right balance of whisky and water the bottle will be done and good riddance.
31st May 2014
One of my fave of all times is the Balvenie 21 Portwood.... it is very expensive, especially here in Canada. This is a great alternative almost as good, very enjoyable... for everyday!
5th May 2014
silky a smooth fragrance of chocolate and a nice taste in palate.. i recommend tasting with a fig ..
30th April 2014
The finish is quite frankly well done. It has nothing to do with the botched distiller's editions that you find on the market at a premium. I usually prefer peated scotch, but I'll probably revisit this one frequently.
29th April 2014
A 50th birthday prezzie from my father in law! Fantastically smooth and wholly drinkable. The decanter lasted a fortnight, with many a sneaky visit to the drinks cupboard.
21st April 2014
A bit too much berry start but fell quickly to a barley/oak tone with a cherry finish that is good for the non-scotch drinker to explore and enjoy.
11th April 2014
As a rather new comer to single malts I am still finding my way, but I may have arrived with this purchase. I absolutely love the smooth finish and rich tastes. The Port Casks finish is subtle but a well-received refinement. Highly recommended.
7th April 2014
This has to be the best whisky under $50.00... PERIOD! The quality Port casks Glenmorangie selects, plus the intrinsic qualities of their 10 year old original, like the herbal, floral, citrus, baked goods are noticeable within the spirit. But, now with added layers of dark chocolate, slight espresso, caramel, sweet Port, toffee, nutmeg. Its rich, earthy and velvety with a medium to long finish. Then on top of that, Glenmorangie throws it at you non-chilled filtered, for that unadulterated, mouth-coating texture, 46% abv, and no caramel color added. What a bargain!
19th February 2014
very smooth. Prefered one over most other Scotch
6th January 2014
An excellent port cask finished malt full of fruity notes and silky smooth with a long rich finish. I buy it often when on offer for about£30-£32.One of the best finished whiskey"s on the market.
24th December 2013
After reading the reviews i was expecting a really smooth whiskey but this is not smooth it reminds me of drinking a cheap whiskey. I have tried many single malts and was really looking forwards to this. Its drinkable and has a lovely nose but the taste doesn't match. i wont be buying it again once this bottle is empty.
26th November 2013
That's all I can say, Wow! Quinta Ruban: This is really special stuff. It's red. I was a wee bit leary of the double casking, but I like it. So happy I have it in the collection. I'm definitely going to try other Glenmorangie selections, and other double cask choices as well.
8th November 2013
Yeah, Ill pick this up EVERY time it is on offer for about £32 in the supermarket. But £40+ quid? Really..... much better off exploring the Japanese market at that price. Or even save yourself £10 and get Green Spot. Jason Breen. Actually, Maybe even save yourself £20 and buy Black Bush.
1st November 2013
Very nice. So smooth and the taste is lovely.
13th October 2013
But what can I say? Yummy! Best dessert available!
4th August 2013
I've been drinking Glenmorangie a while and recently discovered this gem. The first time I had it, there was an audible "wow" with every sip. I prefer this to just about any other whiskey that I've tried. Smells beautiful too.
3rd August 2013
Nose is full of vanilla, caramel fudge, apricots. Taste is smooth and very dessert-like, and very, very tasty. Couldn't keep my hands off the glass!
21st July 2013
Sorry, Suberb = superb
20th July 2013
Smooth, creamy and very spicy. Its not so sweet and floral like Nectar version. It smells like others glenmorangies - wonderfully. Great wiskhy.
Accurate description, and a beautiful ruby reflection. Now this, is a whiskey.

(Translation using Google Translate: I'm from Ukraine (one of the countries of the former Soviet Union, which is in Europe) fond of single malt whiskey, tried a lot of different ones. This is not much, expect a lot, but did not meet even a small, lightweight (first impression), the taste is felt port wine, alcohol and something else very familiar ... but could not remember that, then realized with surprise - Bunnahabhain 12, not my malt, sort of a srednyachok. Feedback was greatly exaggerated.)
8th June 2013
The sweetness of the port cask dominates the nose and palate melting into a creamy dark chocolate. Very smooth creamy body with a complimentary spiciness. I am not picking up the mint, but I did find a red cola/kola cube in the candied Esther's. This is a real beaut and will pair well with a number of desserts or as a post prandial delight.
13th May 2013
Newly added to my collection...lovely lovely whisky. So many flavours. The bourbon flavours obvious, port less so but there. Really tasty. My collection is just moving from islay whiskies...a slow progress I confess.
12th April 2013
Just finished my 1st ever bottle and will start on the 2nd but not the last. Definately in my top 3!
9th March 2013
I do the rounds with single malts & have done so for many years. This was a very pleasant surprise and I can honestly say that I have not sampled a dram more enjoyable to my palate than the Quinta Ruban.
24th December 2012
Beautiful..............this and its stablemate, Lasanta are superb Morangie Whiskies..This is my favorite though, probably as I like a good port as well.
19th August 2012
This is the scotch that made me fall in love with the drink, and I drink it whenever it is available. Hands down the most pleasingly palatable whiskey I've ever had... Candied violets on the nose and a warm, salted-caramel finish. This is the scotch I hand to people who "hate" scotch. Sufficed to say, it has yet to fail in changing that opinion!
8th August 2012
A very nice, smooth malt, heavily ported for 2 years making this the perfect evening dram. Reminds me of an old Bourbon like PvW 20...yes it is nearly that good..Would agree with Glen V, that it is superior to the Balvenie.....90% rating....
6th August 2012
This is one of the smoothest and elegant malts I have tried and one that I will buy again. I tend just to have one in the evening but this one beckons for a second helping usually
1st August 2012
I think it may be the finest port wood scotch. Better than the Balvenie 21 portwood at nearly 4 times the price. Super!!
28th April 2012
Started years ago with Glenfiddich, to Glenlivet to Macallan, but have found my home with Morangie. Especially this one, the Quinta Ruban. Relatively affordable to purchase regualarly yet so much better than some more expensive drams I've had in the past. Port casks REALLY do Scotch Whisky justice.....BEST YET! Slàinte mhòr !
17th January 2012
So smooth berries chocolate all exploding in a bomb of beauty
17th November 2011
I have moved from Dalwhinnie to Macallan to Balvenie and many unnecessaries in between. I also tried the various Glenmorangie wood finishes but was not impressed. However, the Quinta Ruban Port wood finish is astounding! I inhale orange rind in honey with a hint of allspice. The finish lingers long. Then, for a bit of rough, I sip into Bunnabhain.
15th September 2011
I have been a whisky lover for the past 8 yrs and out of all the single malt whisky of 12 yrs aging, i would rate this as the best so far.
31st August 2011
I love this whisky,so smooth
18th August 2011
I have only recently got into drinking "proper" whisky and I was bought this as an xmas present. After reading the description on the bottle I was sceptical, but it truly does have a taste of dark chocolate and mint, its smooth, and really easy to drink. I'd recommend to anyone
