Glenmorangie Lasanta 12yo Bottling Note

This is the 12 year old, Sherry cask finished expression from Glenmorangie, dubbed The Lasanta. It first matures in bourbon casks before being moved over to Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks for a finishing period. Plenty rich and creamy with dark chocolate, dried fruit and fresh honey.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Plum and baking spice supported by milk chocolate raisin, caramel and toasty oak.

Palate: A dash of tart raspberry coulis leads into a generous helping of sherried dried fruit, with orange marmalade, toasted nuts and berry jam. Sweeter notes of brown sugar and cereal notes appear.

Finish: Silky and long, with oily orange peel, cinnamon and hazelnut praline, rounded off by bitter dark chocolate.

Reviews for Glenmorangie Lasanta 12 Year Old
Lovely, until you dig deep. Then it shows the flaw in its conception
I am a fan of Glenmorangie's soft highland style, but Lasanta takes a slightly different and I must say unnecessary direction. For me the sherry is only about 90% integrated. I would have preferred a longer time in the sherry casks; maybe twice as long. This is not like the Jameson's IPA edition which seems to transform the base spirit; it is clearly an addition which does not complement, but rather obscures the subtlety of the grain distillate. Itt is still sweet & warming with a pleasant aroma but there is not much complexity here- a common theme for sherried whiskies, especially at this young age. The aftertaste is subtle. I think the aftertaste is of the base whisky- the "seasoning" loses its legs quickly. If this had been released at 47% or higher I think it would have had much more oomph. As it is, it is not quite the poetic "Ode to Delicate Malt" that the 10 year old is and not quite the powerhouse it seems to want to be.
Having bought and loved the 18 year old Glenmorangie a few times, for me personally, I think the older bottle is worth buying rather than this. Where I am there is only twenty quid difference and the 18 is far superior.
I think some companies....sorry.....I think some young fly-guys with MBAs or marketing degrees want to show that their company have a rounded and innovative "product portfolio".
This is nonsense when it comes to whisky...
unless you plan to base your business on nightclub sales and The "Vodka Bar Set". We whisky drinkers are simple folk. We like things clear: 12, 15, 18 & 25 year old single malt whisky, with commensurate pricing.
So, to put it bluntly, Glenmorangie Stop messing about and just give us what we want

Very good whisky
This is usually above my price limit, but I stumbled on a remarkably good special offer. Unfortunately, I like it so much, I might have to revise my limit.

Great Whisky.
As a new and experimenting Scotch drinker I find Lasanta to be the perfect combination of smoothness, richness, and complexity to further me education. It is definitely at the top of my favorites and one that is on my list of permanent sipping must haves.

Too much cherry
Too much cherry, i rather have the original 10 years. I drink my whisky with soda water most of the times and this cherry flavour it's completely out of place.

Don't be fooled by naysayers
Anyone that ranks this lower than 4.5 is being disingenuous. This is a phenomenal scotch. People may have this posh view of the scotch world and see Glemorangie as "beneath them"; well, guess what? This scotch is absolutely delectable and well worth the price point (50 bucks in California) , it's like desert scotch. Sweet, delectable and figgy, with a bit of vanilla custard. I'd put this up against Macallan 12, and say this mag be a bit better. Beautiful scotch.

Good
Good dram but I cant help but feel the it could have been finished in the Sherry casks for a couple more years. The flavors would have been enhanced. Still a smooth and warming sipper.
