Single Malt
Glenmorangie
Scotland

Inspired by visits to Japan, Glenmorangie’s director of distilling and whisky creation, Dr. Bill Lumsden, decided to create this pretty single malt you see before. Glenmorangie's A Tale Of Tokyo is the fourth release in the 'Tale of' series and the first one to be partially aged in Japanese Mizunara oak casks. It's actually a marriage of whisky aged in both sherry and bourbon barrels as well as Glenmorangie whisky aged in the rare Japanese wood. It was all bottled together at 46% ABV and sports a label and packaging made in collaboration with celebrated Japanese artist, Yamaguchi Akira. It's their perspective of the city's contrasts and layers of history and culture that inspired the design.
Sandalwood, incense, dried cherries, vanilla, star anise, and that trademark Glenmorangie tangy orange note.
A silky palate reveals more notes of citrus alongside marzipan, fennel, dried fruit, white pepper, toffee apple, and a little cinnamon.
Mandarin and toasted almonds.

On the nose, there's of course the classic Glenmorangie vanilla and citrus/orange fruit signature, but joined with a heady spice nip. Extremely smooth in the mouth, the citrus comes to the fore, lemon and orange peel, touch of pepper, ginger and that rich vanilla all combine. Few swishes, and the nuttiness comes out. Almonds and walnuts join the party. t's very nice, especially the mouth feel. Is it mindblowing? Sadly no, but a lot better than last years Forest version.
