27-year-old single malt from the legendary Glenlivet distillery - the first Glenlivet bottling from That Boutique-y Whisky Company! The label of this incredible whisky references the distillery's founder, George Smith and his unpopularity after becoming one of the first to acquire a License for Distillation after the Excise Act of 1823. He doesn't seem too worried.
Batch 1 is a release of 111 bottles.
‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blended malts and blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
The nose is rich with oak, winter spice, cinnamon and cloves, before a concoction of fudge, peanut brittle and vanilla tablet rise. Wine-soaked petals, honeyed sultanas and apple blossom linger below, before a touch of foam banana sweetness and gentle wisps of smoke appear.
Nutty at first, with layers of oily walnut complemented by ground nutmeg and chewy, tannic oak. Full and rich notes of stewed rhubarb and apples emerge with confidence, as does a glaze of Manuka honey. A pinch of fennel brings a clean and elegant spice.
Lightly oily and long, there’s a lingering note of liquorice root.
As devastatingly delicious as it is distinctive, this Glenlivet seems almost tailor-made for an Emerald cocktail (A Manhattan with a dash of orange/Angostura bitters).

I’m sorry to say I found this very disappointing I blind taste tested it against two much younger Glenlivets and I have to say I preferred both of them. It is actually the oldest whisky i have drunk. It doesn’t come close to my 25 year old Glenfarclas or my 24 year old that boutique whisky Bourbon. I guess to my palate anyway it proves that aged isn’t always best. I received it as a dram as part of a fairly luxurious tasting set and at 35 quid just for the sample I certainly won’t buy a full bottle.
