12-year-old Kilkerran single malt from Campbeltown's Glengyle Distillery, which reopened back in 2004. The Kilkerran 12 Year Old is lightly peated and non-chill filtered, and has been matured in a classic combination of bourbon casks sherry casks.
Oak notes are dominant, followed by toasted marshmallows and dried fruit pudding, as well as cherries, marzipan and a hint of peat.
Initially fruity with citrus notes and orange peel, after this: vanilla, butterscotch, honeycomb and digestive biscuits can all be tasted and enjoyed.
Velvet and smooth with lemon meringue, to conclude, there’s an oiliness and a saltiness that you’d expect from a Campbeltown dram.

Got the nose, particularly the marzipan. Loved the palate feel & taste, v citrus and the salty oily end was significant and enjoyable
Sat in the Montcalm hotel bar in London pouring through the ample whiskey menu I discovered this beautiful gem of a whiskey. Initially picked for its lower price, it more than matches the more expensive ones for it it so flavoursome and suited to real enjoyment
I'm not a connoisseur so won't give you tasting notes, but I've tried quite a few and like many to varying degrees - this is now in my top 5 for the affordable under-£50 bracket. Subtle & sort of light, yet complex and flavoursome, and a nice bit of peat without being OTT. I've actually started putting a very small ice cube in some of these stronger drams and it works!
If this is what their 12 is like I cant wait to get my hands on a btl of 16. It's a bit rough & ready but shows great potential, give it water & time in the glass & be patient. It's like a 1/2 way house between Springbank 10 & the new nas Longrow.
The people working at Glengyle Distillery sure know what they’re doing! This whisky is an absolute work of art. Light, fresh and full of flavour.. I tried it for the first time a few days ago and it has instantly become one of my favourite whiskies. Would highly recommend
