Glengoyne
Scotland
Single Malt
A no age statement Glengoyne, released as part of the Spirit of Oak collection originally for the Travel Retail market. After a maturation in exceptional European and American oak, the Highland single malt was treated to a finish Pedro Ximénez casks. A thoroughly tasty and complex dram.
Dried apricot, caramelised nuts, zesty lemon sweeties, milk chocolate and vanilla fudge.
Honeyed fruits, fresh grapes, caramelised brown sugar, lemon zest, warming pepper and ginger spice.
More honey, with citrus, more milk chocolate and a pinch more white pepper.
Over the years I have drank three different teapot drams, two cask strength editions and every age statement glengoyne has put out including the M&S exclusive 14 year old. In 2015 I paid a large sum to take the 5 hour masterclass at the distillery where I tried several single casks and was shown the PX casks by my guide 'Arthur'. So when I saw this was finally for sale I snapped it up... And I'm amazingly disappointed... It tastes very very very similar to the basic 12 year old statement... At double the price. If they had bottled this at Cask Strength and not chill filtered it, then it could have been special, but although complex it is weak and lacks punch.. tastes too thin...
