Glengoyne
Scotland
Single Malt
Introduced in early 2014, this is a 25 year old single malt from the Glengoyne distillery - an addition to their core range. The Highlands distillery uses unpeated malt for this whisky, which is then matured for a quarter of a century in Sherry casks.
Big notes of sherry-soaked fruit up front - raisins, figs and oranges. This is followed by wafts of toasted almonds and classic notes of old leather.
Vanilla and dark chocolate open up the palate. Sherry comes through yet again, but this time in the shape of rich, well spiced fruit cake. Hints of orange and oak round it off.
The finish lasts with notes of red fruits and cracked black pepper.
A very easy dram to get lost in, to take your time with on every step.
Tired of all the hype behind Macallan 25... This scotch is 3x cheaper and offer as much dimension (I've tried both). It's a bit expensive for a 25, yet not overpriced for 2016 standards. If you can afford it, go for it.. for the rest take the sample and stop complaining. Also... Please stop comparing it to Macallan 18.. it's quite an insult to the distillery.
Excellent!!! Very smooth.
I got this because I wanted to know what a really great sherry matured whisky would be like. And for me it was just a bit too subdued. Honestly it tastes like it's gone a bit flat. I get the quality, I get some of the flavor, but it's so far in the background... I feel like it would fit nicely at $125 a bottle.
Can we rate a whisky 6 stars? Gave it to 5 friends to try.. They all wanted to buy a bottle. Among the 10 whiskys you must try before you die..
By far the best whisky on the market today!
