Glengoyne
Scotland
Single Malt
An older edition of Glengoyne's 15-year-old single malt, produced before its bottles underwent a redesign in 2020. This is a rich, rounded single malt, completely devoid of peat smoke thanks to air-drying the barley. It is aged in both bourbon and first-fill sherry casks, with some refill cask whisky thrown in for good measure.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Spicy & flavorful, with butterscotch & a very slight/mild saltiness that doesn't overpower the entire spirit. Oak lingers pleasantly on the finish. Very enjoyable whisky.
I have been wanting to try this for some time as my preferred 15 yr olds are the Glenfiddich solera and the Glen Moray 15 Heritage, both of which are superb, the Glenfiddich just slightly ahead in my opinion. This when first opened was quite sulphery on the nose but has settled down a bit.The nose is apples and pears and a very slight vanilla but nothing standout. The palate is about the same with just a touch of sherry leading into a fairly bittter short finish.I am happy to finish the bottle but don't think I will by another. The Glen Moray is slightly cheaper and much better and the Glenfiddich is ridiculously cheaper £32 in some supermarkets at the moment !! but absolutely miles in front. For me, this one together with Glengoyne12, the best within the fabulous Glengoyne range (I tasted 10,12,15,18,21). Between the two, the Glengoyne 12 is more citric, Glengoyne 15 is sweetest. The others I have tasted are very good too.
Very nice 15 yr old this one! Full of flavour and typical Glengoyne apple, cinnamon flavours. Recommend this one!
I wanted to try an expression from Glengoyne and this didn't disappoint. Its all the things the other reviews have pointed out. The only thing stopping it getting 5 stars for me, is the Glendronach 12yr old is a shade cheaper and has more going on whilst still being as smooth with. Still a very good whisky though to savour.
