    Single Malt

    Glenglassaugh Torfa

We've seen the Revival and the Evolution, and now Glenglassaugh are adding a peated expression to their range. The Torfa (which refers to the Old Norse word for turf or peat) has been matured in ex-bourbon barrels and weighs in at 20 PPM. We love to see that Glenglassaugh is back up and running again after being closed for over 20 years, and they've even got enough momentum to try new things, as this is their first peated single malt Scotch whisky!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Smoke and citrus in equal measures, with sweet spice happily sitting between the two.

    Palate

Not overtly smoky. It's definitely got its coastal elements, but the fruity notes of melon, apple and yet more citrus make it a rather sweet dram, balanced by warming barley.

    Finish

    Smoke lasts to the end.

    Overall

A good introduction to peated whisky for those looking to get a taste of smoky goodness.

    Surprisingly good

Totally love this whisky. My favourite reasonably priced peated dram. It's quality is on par with many double and triple priced alternatives. I hope Brown-Forman will not ruin it!

A word from a Slavic Whisky Fan

For years I've been a fan of Laphroaig, Kilchoman and Ardbeg. Just tried Torfa.... To me it's the best.....

    Rather Impressed

I'd echo the review, below. Got a sample with my order, thinking it would be interesting but rather young, a little rough round the edges and largely forgettable. How happy I am to have been wrong! This is pleasantly peated (not OTT smoky) with enough going on, besides, to make it really enjoyable. A lightly peated vanilla ice-cream, if you can imagine such a thing.

    Very nice indeed!

Every time I buy a bottle, I buy a miniature of something I've not tried before - I got a Torfa yesterday. Not a particularly challenging or intriguing malt, but it's very, very nice to drink. A drop of spring water really opens it up, quite sweet, good body, smooth and satisfying. Not very smoky, gentle peat. The MoM tasting notes seem about right to me. Very enjoyable and I will probably buy a bottle very soon.
