Dig in a to wonderful juxtaposition of peat smoke and Port sweetness with this excellent Glenglassaugh single malt! Released as part of their Wood Finishes series (launched in 2017 - and the first cask-finished whiskies released by the distillery!), it's a well-balanced dram with plenty of character behind it.
Brown sugar, damson and a hearty waft of peaty embers.
Creamy and sweet, with a prickle of cinnamon leading towards more smoke. Poached pears and blackberry compote.
Sweetness wins out in the end, with jammy cherry and a hint of Sherried citrus peel.
The above tasting notes are quite accurate, maybe also some zestiness on the nose. Sweet, full and creamy mouthfeel, with peatiness following soon after, adding some complexity. All in all not too complex, but definitely right for the money. I guess the whisky to be anywhere from 10 to 12 years old.
