Glenfiddich Experimental Series - Fire & Cane

Let the great experiment... Continue! Glenfiddich has added a new expression to its Experimental Series, unveiling Fire & Cane in mid-2018. Malt master Brian Kinsman has given some of the distillery's peated single malt a three-month finishing period in rum casks - but not just any old rum casks. He's selected rum casks from a variety of South American countries to finish this whisky, which ought to play nicely with the burly peat notes at its core.

    Tasting Note by The Producer

    Nose

Billowing soft peat notes, like distant smoke on the wind. Rich sweet toffee with zesty fresh fruit notes and spiciness.

    Palate

Like a Highland peat campfire, with oak notes and toffee. Sharp green fruit, sweet baked apple and soft smoke.

    Finish

    Lingering smokiness and sweetness.

    CRAP

Awful MOUTHWASH aftertaste (Islay flavour) £43 up the Khyber, total Shiite !!!

    Identity Crisis

I dont think this whisky knows what it wants to be, it's not peaty enough for Islay lovers, and tasting it blind would'nt alert you to it being a good speyside, or in fact being a glenfiddich. It's pleasant enough, dont get me wrong, but nothing special, maybe a tad harsh as well, and when the wife wanted 100ml to add to a pudding i said to use this one (i don't have blended to use lol), as i didnt want to waste a better scotch (the guests loved the pudding tho').

Good/ very good but not great whisky

I don't write a lot of reviews simply because English is not my first language, but i read a lot. I've decided to write one because this whisky got quite diverse ratings. I am fairly new to whisky/ey world and being a smoker (heavy) for around 20 years I can't give you all of tastes like connoisseurs (thanks google) may have. As I have mentioned before my taste buds are DEAD they can recognise only strong tastes. This whisky is advertised as a typical Spayside whisky with hint peat and hint of Rum taste. Let me start with smoke first. For a person who can't distinct difference between Highland and Speyside whisky on a first sip I can tell it is not more peated than Johhny Walker 12. From Rum casking I have only tried Jura Rum cask, and this one (Glen...F&C) is way better. It is smooth whisky. I am from country where spirits (vodka) rules, but the way of drinking (spirits) is based on shots, not to try to catch a flavours, just one sot and be ready for next one. This whisky is very smooth, goes nice and easy on your throat, but not give a typical to Island/Isley whisky aftertaste it is slightly peated but not overhealmy feeling of smoke/peat. Regarding Rum taste it gives you that sweeteness, which rum have. In my opinion it is a well ballanced whisky with unique mix. It is sweeeter than normal speyside/highland whisky and more peated than them, but comparing to Bow or even Ardmore it is not. I like sipping rum, but whisky kept in Rum barrels will never taste like rum (remember this) I drink my whisky neat. This is a good drum not the best one I had but will give you a different experience than normal speyside/ islay / rum taste. 86 or 87/100.
